    • Not in Tuesday's lineup
Baty is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Cleveland.

Advice: The Mets had been using a strict platoon at third base since Mark Vientos was recalled, but it will be Vientos getting the start at third base in this one against right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Baty is hitting just .125/.186/.150 with a 43.2 percent strikeout rate since his two-homer game back on May 3 and could be losing his grip on a starting job. Rotowire.com 2 minutes ago
    • Spencer Steer (ankle) remains out Tuesday vs. SD
Spencer Steer (ankle) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.

Advice: Steer will miss back-to-back games while dealing with his ankle injury. The 26-year-old will sit with Santiago Espinal at third and Jeimer Candelario again handling duties at first base. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Out again Tuesday
Steer (ankle) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Steer was held out of Sunday's game with an ankle injury and is apparently still not feeling well enough to play after Monday's off day. He did serve as a pinch hitter Sunday, suggesting the injury is more of a day-to-day situation. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Boone: DJ LeMahieu ‘on track’ for May 28 return
Aaron Boone told the Talkin’ Yanks podcast that he believes DJ LeMahieu (foot) is on track to return May 28.

Advice: That would be next Tuesday, for those curious. LeMahieu has been out for the entirety of 2024 while recovering from his foot fracture. The 35-year-old is currently on a rehab assignment, and he’ll likely continue that assignment through the end of the week. LeMahieu hasn’t been a valuable fantasy player over the last few years, but hitting in the New York lineup does add some intrigue. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

    • Tracking toward May 28 return
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in an interview on the Talkin' Yanks podcast of Jomboy Media on Tuesday that he expects LeMahieu (foot) to be activated from the 10-day injured list on May 28.

Advice: LeMahieu went 2-for-3 with three walks in six plate appearances during his two rehab games with Double-A Somerset following the resumption of his rehab assignment and is slated to be transferred to Single-A Hudson Valley to continue rehabbing. Boone also reiterated that LeMahieu will be the team's primary third baseman when he returns, although the plan is to mix in more off days for him initially since he's missed so much time. LeMahieu is coming back from a non-displaced fracture of his right foot. Rotowire.com Today, 10:32 am

    • Starting spot in jeopardy
Baty went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Guardians, and he's at risk of losing his starting job at third base to Mark Vientos, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Since a two-homer game May 3, Baty is slashing an anemic .125/.186/.150 with a 43.2 percent strikeout rate. Vientos has mainly been used as a short-side platoon option since his most recent promotion, but he's gone 4-for-14 with two doubles in four games. Baty hasn't let his struggles impact his defense, and that might be the only thing keeping him in the starting nine at the moment. With the Mets scrambling to find offense, though, they might decide they can live with Vientos' inferior glove at the hot corner if he can produce at the plate. Rotowire.com Today, 7:32 am
    • Starting rehab assignment
Walls (hip) was assigned to the Florida Complex League Rays on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.

Advice: Walls had to be shut down for a while after developing inflammation in his surgically repaired right hip, but he's progressed to the point that he's ready to try things out in a game setting. The infielder will eventually move up to a higher affiliate but figures to be looking at a lengthy rehab assignment since he'll basically be going through spring training. Walls is probably looking at a utility infielder role with the Rays when he returns. Rotowire.com Today, 6:25 am

    • Back in lineup
Suarez went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Suarez was back in the starting lineup after getting his first day off of the season Sunday. His seventh-inning double snapped an 0-for-12 run. Suarez, who is hitting .155 with a .478 OPS during May, has yet to find a groove for his new club. For the season, he's slashing .212/.279/.324 through 47 games. Rotowire.com Today, 3:18 am
    • Raps out three hits
Newman went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Newman has five multi-hit efforts over his last nine games, going 15-for-31 (.484) in that span. The shortstop still isn't hitting for a lot of power, but he's been able to make decent contact. For the season, he has a .276/.311/.439 slash line with two home runs, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, a stolen base, eight doubles and a triple over 103 plate appearances. Newman should continue to handle the starting job at shortstop at least until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is able to return, likely in early June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:39 pm
