    • Cast off 40-man roster
The Rockies designated Montero for assignment Sunday.

Advice: After popping 11 home runs in 307 plate appearances with the Rockies in 2023 and securing an everyday role coming out of camp this spring, Montero looked to be an attractive late-round target in drafts. Unfortunately for his fantasy managers, Montero quickly fell out of favor, and he didn't show any signs of improvements after regaining playing time once injuries began to pile up for the Rockies. Even with Kris Bryant (oblique) still stuck on the 10-day injured list, the Rockies didn't have room for Montero as a backup option at first base or designated hitter with the team needing to clear a spot for catcher Elias Diaz's (calf) return from the IL. The 25-year-old Montero, who had posted a .474 OPS in June and a .205/.267/.304 slash line over 247 plate appearances on the season, has no minor-league options remaining, so he would need to be carried on the 26-man active roster if another team trades for him or claims him off waivers. • Tearing up Triple-A pitching
Brown, who was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 18, owns a .400 average and 1.234 OPS over the 44 plate appearances he's logged since joining the Aviators.

Advice: Brown is right back in his element within the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, where he once ran roughshod over pitchers to the tune of a 37-home-run, 104-RBI season back in 2019. He hasn't truly approximated that caliber of production in the big leagues despite belting at least 20 homers on two occasions with the Athletics, and he was having a career-worst season when he was demoted earlier in June. However, Brown has rediscovered his power stroke in Vegas for the time being, with his five homers and 14 RBI already nearly matching the numbers he'd produced with Oakland over 54 additional games. • Returning from four-game absence
Candelario (hamstring) will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 3 batter in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: After missing out on four straight starts due to hamstring tendinitis, Candelario will draw back into the lineup in a non-defensive role as he makes his fifth start of the season at DH. With Noelvi Marte recently completing his 80-game suspension and likely to see the bulk of the starts at third base moving forward, Candelario could end up picking up most of his playing time at either DH or first base, which should help aid his recovery from the hamstring issue. • Three hits in win
Santana went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's win over the Mariners.

Advice: Santana reached base in three of his first four trips to the plate, starting with a leadoff double in the top of the fourth. It was the veteran first baseman's fourth three-hit performance this month and the fourth multi-hit effort in his last six games. Over that latter stretch he's batting .400 (10-for-25) with three doubles, one RBI and four runs scored. Rotowire.com Today, 8:30 am

    • Raps three hits Saturday
Arraez went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and two runs in Saturday's 11-1 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Arraez notched his fourth multi-hit game over his past nine contests and his first three-hit performance of June. The infielder ranks third in the majors with a .315 average on the campaign, though he's at .325 since joining the Padres in a trade with Miami in early May. Arraez's minuscule 5.7 percent strikeout rate leads all qualified MLB hitters, though his 4.1 percent walk rate is on pace for the lowest mark of his career and he has just two homers along with three thefts on the season. • RBI streak at six games
Pasquantino went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Guardians.

Advice: The first baseman opened the scoring for his squad in the first inning by taking Tanner Bibee deep, but the Royals' offense quickly dried up after that. Pasquantino has gone yard in back-to-back games and has a six-game RBI streak going, batting .348 (8-for-23) over that stretch with a double, three homers and eight RBI. Rotowire.com Today, 4:19 am
    • Crushes second homer
Noel went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Royals.

Advice: In his fourth big-league game, Noel launched his second big-league homer, and it wasn't a cheap one -- the 22-year-old ripped a Cole Ragans slider down the left-field line in the fourth inning, and the ball left his bat at 115.4 mph. Per Mandy Bell of MLB.com, it was the hardest-hit home run by a Cleveland player since Statcast was introduced in 2015. Noel has started two of four games since his promotion, going 3-for-9 with a double in addition to the long balls, but the Guardians will find room for him in the lineup more often if he keeps displaying this kind of power. • Breaks out of short slump
Jones went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Saturday against the White Sox.

Advice: Jones entered Saturday's game having collected just one hit across his last 15 at-bats. He ended that short slump with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, his second long ball since returning from the injured list June 14. Jones is still working on finding his rhythm this season after missing around six weeks due to knee and back injuries, but he is now hitting .250 since being activated. • Homers in victory Saturday
Busch went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-3 win against Milwaukee.

Advice: Busch helped Chicago get off to a fast start by belting a two-run homer in the first inning. The long ball was just his second of June, though he's hit well outside of the power department with a .310 average over 24 contests. Busch has reached base via hit or walk in 21 of 24 games this month, and two of the three times he didn't do so were contests in which he didn't start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:57 pm
