      Advice: Skubal struck out seven and gave up only five hard-hit balls. Unfortunately, two of those hard-hit balls went 426 and 407 feet, as Skubal allowed two homers for just the second time this season.       Skubal (8-3) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Most of the damage against Skubal came via the long ball Wednesday -- he gave up a two-run homer to Sean Murphy in the third inning before Ramon Laureano tacked on a solo shot in the fourth. The 27-year-old Skubal has now lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season -- he's given up eight earned runs over 10.1 innings in that span. The reliever threw multiple warmup pitches in an effort to remain in the game, but the Rays' trainers elected to pull him early. Per Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, the main concern was with Fairbanks' thumb, but his X-rays came back negative after the game, and he appears to be dealing with only a bruise. The Rays might stay away from using the 30-year-old righty out of the bullpen for the next few days, but a trip to the injured list initially looks like it will be avoided. Trout is currently trying to find exercises that allow him to progress with minimal soreness, so he doesn't appear particularly close to baseball work. However, after experiencing no issues following his latest rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock, the 39-year-old veteran has officially been given the green light to return to the Rangers' rotation. He posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.18 WHIP alongside a 17:3 K:BB through 11 innings during his assignment, and it's unclear if the right-hander will be working under any restrictions during his return to a big-league mound.
