    • Cristian Javier (elbow) moved to 60-day IL
Astros transferred RHP Cristian Javier from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: It’s a move that creates room on the 40-man roster for Luis Contreras. Javier will miss the remainder of the 2024 season and likely a portion of 2025 while he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

    • Kyle Gibson placed on bereavement list
Cardinals placed RHP Kyle Gibson on the bereavement list.

Advice: Gibson will be away from the Cardinals for three days while dealing with things more important than sports. Ryan Loutos is up to take his place on the active roster. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago

    • Goes on bereavement leave
The Cardinals placed Gibson on the bereavement list Sunday.

Advice: Gibson has left the team following a death in the family. Per MLB rules, players placed on the bereavement list have to be deactivated for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days, making it unclear if Gibson will be ready to rejoin the team ahead of his next scheduled start. The Cardinals had confirmed Gibson as their starting pitcher for Wednesday's game in Miami, though that announcement was made prior to his placement on the bereavement list. • Secures sixth save
Diaz gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Padres.

Advice: A leadoff single by Jurickson Profar and a stolen base by pinch runner Jose Azocar created another nervous ninth for the Mets, but Diaz buckled down after that and fanned Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth to preserve the win. Diaz's velocity appears to be all the way back -- his fastest pitch Friday hit 100 mph -- and he's looked to be in just about peak form in two appearances since recovering from a shoulder impingement. The 30-year-old right-hander is just 6-for-10 in converting save chances in 2024, but as long as he's healthy he should be locked in as the Mets' closer. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:52 am

    • Alexis Díaz allows four to reach in earning save
Alexis Díaz recorded his 15th save despite allowing two runs — one earned — in the ninth Friday versus the Brewers.

Advice: Díaz survived yet again after allowing three hits and walking a batter in a sloppy ninth inning. He’ll probably be available Saturday, but if not, the save chance could go to Lucas Sims or Fernando Cruz. Rotoworld Friday, 10:24 pm

    • Strikes out seven in win
Castillo (6-7) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Castillo received an extra day of rest after Emerson Hancock got a spot start Thursday. It looks like that was a good move, as Castillo was able to bounce back from his worst start of the year to earn his third quality start in his last four outings. He is now at a 3.32 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 92:24 K:BB over 89.1 innings through 15 starts. He's projected for a challenging road matchup versus the Guardians next week. • Luis Castillo holds Rangers to two runs over six
Luis Castillo struck out seven after six innings of two-run baseball against the Rangers on Friday while picking up a win.

Advice: Castillo scuffled in the first inning, allowing a pair of RBI singles. After that, the right-hander was excellent while keeping the Rangers off the board over the next five frames. The six strong innings see him lower his ERA on the campaign to 3.32 with a 92/24 K/BB. Castillo’s next chance to pitch is scheduled for Thursday against the Guardians in Cleveland. • Escapes with save
Diaz allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk Friday while earning a save over Milwaukee.

Advice: Diaz was tasked with protecting a 6-3 lead in the ninth inning and ran into some trouble. He walked in a run after an error loaded the bases and allowed what would've been the game-tying hit if not for Will Benson throwing out Jake Bauers at home. Diaz has converted eight straight saves and 15 of his 17 chances this season. Despite his relative success in those situations, his ERA is up to 5.47 with a lackluster 27:19 K:BB through 26.1 innings. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:14 pm

    • Edwin Díaz finally gets a save
Edwin Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Mets to earn the save on Friday against the Padres. He struck out two and stranded a runner on third base.

Advice: Díaz and the Mets really needed this one. You could hear a pin drop in Citi Field when Jurickson Profar led off the inning with a single, but Díaz was able to work around it for his first save in 39 days. He also hit a true 100 MPH for the first time this season as he looks to get back into a groove as the Mets’ closer. Rotoworld Friday, 8:14 pm
