    • Bo Bichette out Saturday with right calf soreness
Bo Bichette is absent from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Guardians due to right calf soreness.

Advice: Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters they’ll see how Bichette is feeling this weekend before deciding on a course of action. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but it’s a developing situation fantasy managers should keep a close eye on. He’s been playing through the lingering issue of late and is presumably day-to-day for now. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago

    • Dealing with calf issue
Bichette is absent from Saturday's lineup against the Guardians as a result of right calf soreness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Bichette has been playing through the calf issue for a few games, so the team decided to give him a day off Saturday. Manager John Schneider said the team will keep an eye on how the shortstop is feeling ahead of Sunday's series finale with Cleveland before making a decision on when he'll be back in the lineup. • Day off Saturday
Bichette is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Guardians, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Bichette will get a rare breather Saturday, taking a seat after he went 3-for-18 with an RBI and a run scored over the last five games, three of which he failed to record a hit in. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will slide over to shortstop while Addison Berger enters the lineup at third base and bats seventh versus Cleveland. Rotowire.com Today, 8:27 am

    • Stuck with tough loss Friday
Waldron (4-6) took the loss Friday as the Padres were downed 2-1 by the Mets, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out two.

Advice: The knuckleballer delivered his fourth straight quality start while lasting seven innings for just the second time this season, but San Diego's offense gave little support. Waldron has gone seven straight outings in which he's pitched at least five innings and allowed two runs or less, posting a stellar 1.91 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB through 42.1 innings over that stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Philadelphia. Rotowire.com Today, 7:37 am
    • Experiencing general tightness
Smith was not in the starting lineup Friday due to what manager Bruce Bochy referred to as "general tightness," Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's the same condition that led to Smith being held out of Tuesday's starting lineup. He eventually entered Friday's game as a pinch hitter, popping out in the ninth inning. With Corey Seager not playing the field yet as he battles a hamstring, Ezequiel Duran started at shortstop. Rotowire.com Today, 6:04 am

    • McCutchen homers in win over Rockies
Andrew McCutchen hit a homer and scored two runs in a 5-2 win for the Pirates over the Rockies on Friday.

Advice: McCutchen is now up to nine homers with his solo shot off Ryan Feltner; one of three homers the Bucs hit against Feltner in the contest. The 37-year-old outfielder also doubled for the sixth time in 2024. It’s a far cry from his MVP status a few years ago, but the pair of extra-base hits improves his slash to a respectable — if modest — .239/.339/.394 over the first 69 games of the campaign. • Clubs ninth homer
McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Friday's 5-2 win over Colorado.

Advice: McCutchen crushed a mammoth 448-foot solo homer of Ryan Feltner in the sixth inning to give the Pirates a lead they never relinquished. The 37-year-old veteran later tallied another run to his register when a Bryan Reynolds single drove him home in the eighth. McCutchen has been a steady producer over the last 30 days, hitting .297 (28-for-94) with five homers, 19 runs scored and 12 RBI in 22 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:06 pm
    • Back in win column
Gil (9-1) picked up the win Friday over the Red Sox, allowing one run on four hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Gil struggled with command a bit Friday, though he'd manage to limit Boston to a lone fourth-inning run en route to his ninth win this season. The 26-year-old Gil allowed three runs in his last outing against the Dodgers, though he's now held opponents to one run or fewer in eight of his last nine starts. Gil's ERA is down to 2.03 with a 0.98 WHIP and 96:39 K:BB across 80 innings this year. He's currently slated for a road matchup with the Orioles in his next outing. • Matt Waldron allows two runs across seven innings
Matt Waldron kept the Mets at bay through seven innings on Friday allowing just three hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out two.

Advice: This was another solid start for Waldron without being as dominant as his last handful. His knuckleball danced through the rainy night sky in Queens and the Mets had plenty of trouble squaring it up. He’ll take a 3.66 ERA into his next start against the Phillies.
