      Advice: A Jahmai Jones triple in the second inning was the only knock on Sale's line as the veteran lefty fanned at least seven batters for the eighth time in nine starts since the beginning of May. Over that stretch, he's posted a 2.45 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 74:9 K:BB through 55 innings en route to becoming the third pitcher in the majors this season to reach double-digit wins, after the Phillies' Ranger Suarez and the Royals' Seth Lugo.       Cease allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Friday.

      Advice: Cease has failed to complete five innings in three of his last seven starts. He labored in this one, throwing 68 of 106 pitches for strikes while posting double-digit strikeouts for the second time this year. The right-hander is at a 4.14 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 116:28 K:BB over 91.1 innings through 16 starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Nationals.       Kutter Crawford surrendered five runs — three earned — in 6 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Reds.

      Advice: Crawford surrendered three homers tonight, bringing his total allowed to seven in his last three starts. He’s given up at least one in seven straight outings.     • Dylan Cease strikes out 10, allows four runs vs. MIL
      Dylan Cease allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision with 10 strikeouts against the Brewers on Friday.

      Advice: Cease needed 106 pitches to get the 14 outs, so he wasn’t able to get the final out needed to qualify for a win. The right-hander did at least help with the punchouts, and he’s now struck out 116 in his 91 1/3 innings in his first year with the Padres.     • Chris Sale stifles Yankees, earns win
      Chris Sale struck out eight Yankees and allowed just one run across five innings in an 8-1 win on Friday. He walked three while the Yankees had just one hit.

      Advice: Sale was on one in this start. Aaron Judge and Juan Soto were a combined 0-for-4 with four punch outs against the gangly left-hander and just two Yankees reached second base. More notable, Sale’s velocity was up nearly two ticks across the board. His fastball topped out at 98.4 MPH, the fastest he’s thrown a pitch in more than 13 months.     • Strikes out eight in win
      Flaherty (5-4) earned the win against the White Sox on Friday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Flaherty threw four scoreless innings before surrendering a solo home run to Tommy Pham in the fifth. He then allowed a hit and a walk with two outs in the sixth before being pulled just shy of a quality start at 98 pitches. The home run was the first earned run Flaherty has allowed since May 23, and the pitch count was encouraging considering he was limited to 73 pitches in his last outing following a back injury. On the season, he owns a 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 108:13 K:BB over 83.1 innings and tentatively lines up to face the Phillies next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 6:30 pm

      Jack Flaherty delivered an excellent performance in Friday night’s victory over the White Sox, racking up eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

      Advice: The right-hander scattered five hits on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Tommy Pham in the fifth inning. Aside from that though, he was in complete control. Flaherty got 14 swings and misses on 98 pitches in the ballgame — seven of those on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. Now 5-4 on the season, the increasingly popular trade candidate will carry a sublime 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 108/13 K/BB ratio (83 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Phillies.       Rays RHP prospect Shane Baz struck out six over three scoreless innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

      Advice: Baz averaged 96.5 mph on his four-seam fastball, which generated seven swinging strikes in this one, and needed just 70 pitches to navigate three frames.       Anderson (6-7) allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five over seven innings to take the loss versus the Brewers on Wednesday.

      Advice: Anderson held an opponent to one run for the sixth time in his last seven starts, but a lack of run support from the Angels stuck him with another loss. In that seven-start span, he's walked at least three batters four times and hasn't struck out more than five batters in any outing. The southpaw is at a 2.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 63:41 K:BB through 94.1 innings through 15 starts this year. Anderson is projected to make his next start at home versus the Athletics.
