    • Resting for day game
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Alvarez will get a breather for the day game Sunday after he started behind the plate Friday and Saturday. Luis Torrens will step in as the Mets' starting catcher in place of Alvarez, who has gone 2-for-14 with two RBI through his first four starts since returning from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. • Sitting out Thursday
Alvarez is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Marlins.

Advice: Alvarez started at catcher in the first two games of the series after being activated from the 10-day injured list, but he will sit out the finale. Luis Torrens will do the catching for Luis Severino. Rotowire.com Thursday, 12:09 pm
    • Sitting against southpaw
Naylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: With lefty Nick Lodolo on the hill for Cincinnati, the lefty-hitting Naylor will retreat to the bench. Austin Hedges will step in for Naylor behind the plate. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:14 pm

    • Mets activate Alvarez (thumb) off injured list
Mets activated C Francisco Alvarez off the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Alvarez is back after missing close to six weeks while recovering from left thumb surgery. The 22-year-old should see the overwhelming majority of reps behind the plate, and the power in his right-handed bat makes him worthy of fantasy consideration in most formats. Just keep in mind that he’s not likely to fill out many other categories in 2024. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:59 am
    • Activated from injured list
The Mets activated Alvarez (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Alvarez has been sidelined since late April with a fractured left thumb but is ready to roll after playing in six rehab games. It's possible the Mets will ease him back into everyday action with some extra off days mixed in, but he will immediately regain his role as the club's primary catcher. Alvarez was slashing .236/.288/.364 with one home run in 16 contests before getting hurt. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:42 am
    • Resumes rehab in Brooklyn
Alvarez (thumb) resumed his rehab assignment Sunday with High-A Brooklyn, starting at catcher while going 0-for-5 in a 7-6 loss to Aberdeen.

Advice: After going 3-for-14 with a home run and three walks across the first five games of his rehab assignment, Alvarez had been out of the Brooklyn lineup for each of the previous three days while tending to a family matter in his native Venezuela. He rejoined Brooklyn for its final game of the week, and though he came up empty at the plate, getting additional at-bats under his belt is the more pressing concern for Alvarez as he looks to prove he's made a full recovery from the left thumb surgery he underwent in late April. If the Mets are comfortable with Alvarez's health coming out of Sunday's contest, he could be activated from the 10-day injured list for the start of the big club's series with the Marlins that begins Tuesday. • Idle vs. southpaw
Naylor is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Marlins.

Advice: With Miami sending southpaw Trevor Rogers to the mound Sunday, the lefty-hitting Naylor will begin the contest in the dugout while David Fry gets the start behind home plate. It's the third straight game Naylor has not started, as the 24-year-old has struggled at the plate since May 1, slashing .152/.186/.227 with a 32.9 percent strikeout rate over 66 at-bats during that span. • Sitting again Saturday
Naylor isn't in the Guardians' lineup for Saturday's game against Miami.

Advice: Slashing just .170/.247/.259 through 150 plate appearances, Naylor has begun to see his playing time take a significant hit recently. David Fry, who has had one of the hottest bats in baseball, will pick up another start behind the plate while Kyle Manzardo serves as Cleveland's DH. Rotowire.com Saturday, 3:01 pm

    • Absent from lineup versus lefty
Naylor is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Miami.

Advice: With southpaw Ryan Weathers on the hill for the Marlins, the left-handed hitting Naylor will begin this one on the bench. Austin Hedges will do the catching for Logan Allen. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:39 pm
