    • Zac Gallen (hamstring) to throw sim game next week
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week.

Advice: The hope here is that Gallen will be ready to be activated, without requiring a minor league rehab assignment, after next week’s simulated game. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May after suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:46 pm

    • Another sim game coming next week
Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list shortly thereafter, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: After tossing 31- and 37-pitch bullpen sessions last week, Gallen advanced to facing hitters in a simulated game Tuesday. Gallen's strained right hamstring apparently responded well to the workout, but the Diamondbacks will still have him toss another sim game during the upcoming week before signing off on his return to the rotation. If all goes well during his second sim game, Gallen could return at some point during the Diamondbacks' series in Oakland next weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:20 am

    • Posts another quality start
Ryan allowed one run on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters over six innings in a no-decision against Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

Advice: Ryan gave up a third-inning solo homer to Isaac Paredes but otherwise kept the Rays off the scoreboard. The right-handed hurler racked up an impressive 19 swinging strikes, though he finished with a modest five punchouts. Ryan recorded his third straight quality start and his 11th of the season, which is tied for fifth in the majors. He's complemented that total with a 3.13 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 95:15 K:BB over 92 innings. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:04 pm

    • Joe Ryan pitches well in no-decision vs. Rays
Joe Ryan was terrific in a no-decision against the Rays on Wednesday evening, surrendering just one run on six hits over his six innings of work.

Advice: The 28-year-old hurler struck out five batters on the night while allowing only one base on balls. The lone tally against him came on a 359-foot solo blast off the bat of Isaac Paredes in the third inning. Ryan generated a whopping 19 swings and misses on 94 pitches in the ballgame — 12 of those on his fastball — while registering a strong CSW of 36 percent. The right-hander will carry a terrific 3.13 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 95/15 K/BB ratio (92 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:57 pm

    • Bypassed in save opportunity
Neris was not used to close out Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants, with Colten Brewer getting the save instead.

Advice: Neris took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) in an inning of work, and he's allowed a total of seven earned runs over his last three outings. The veteran's ERA has climbed to 4.73 as a result of his recent struggles, and he's blown four saves this year in 14 chances. Chicago manager Craig Counsell said following Monday's game that he didn't plan on making a change at closer, according to James Neveau of Yahoo Sports, but this situation could be fluid. Brewer is at least worth keeping an eye on in the short term. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:39 pm

    • Converts on 19th save
Iglesias picked up the save Tuesday against Detroit, throwing a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Advice: Iglesias is now 19-for-21 on save chances this season and holds the fourth-most saves in baseball. Tuesday's outing was a strong rebound after allowing a two-run homer and taking the loss Sunday against Tampa Bay. Overall, Iglesias owns a 2.60 ERA across 27.2 innings. • Short outing vs. Mariners
McKenzie (3-4) took the loss Tuesday against Seattle, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks over 2.1 innings without recording a strikeout.

Advice: After holding the Mariners scoreless through his first two innings, McKenzie allowed five of the first six batters to reach safely in the third, ultimately surrendering four runs before the Guardians turned to the bullpen. The 26-year-old McKenzie has struggled of late -- he hasn't made it through six innings in five straight starts, posting a 7.04 ERA in that span. Overall, his ERA is up to 4.48 on the season with a 1.46 WHIP and 65:42 K:BB across 70.1 innings. He'll look to right the ship in his next outing, currently scheduled for this weekend at home versus Toronto. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:15 pm

    • McKenzie can’t escape third inning in loss
Triston McKenzie allowed four runs on three hits in 2 1/3 while walking four and striking out nobody in a loss to the Mariners.

Advice: This is now the fifth straight subpar start for McKenzie, who had an uptick in velocity tonight but saw no benefit from it. We know he’s pitching through an injury, and he’s just clearly not healthy when he’s out there on the mound right now. He didn’t throw a single slider in the strike zone tonight and had just a 40 percent zone rate overall. With Gavin Williams on the way back, you have to wonder if McKenzie might be in jeopardy of losing his spot in the rotation. He’ll take a 4.48 ERA into an okay matchup against the Blue Jays this weekend, but he’s simply tough to trust right now. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:20 pm

    • Iglesias picks up 19th save in win over Tigers
Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 19th save on Tuesday against the Tigers.

Advice: After giving way to Joe Jimenez to shut the door on Monday, Iglesias was back on the bump on Tuesday to close things out vs. the Tigers. Iglesias needed just 11 pitches to pick up his 19th save of the season, bouncing back nicely from his last outing vs. the Rays. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:13 pm
