    Skubal (8-3) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out seven.

    Advice: Most of the damage against Skubal came via the long ball Wednesday -- he gave up a two-run homer to Sean Murphy in the third inning before Ramon Laureano tacked on a solo shot in the fourth. The 27-year-old Skubal has now lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season -- he's given up eight earned runs over 10.1 innings in that span. The left-hander still sports a solid 2.50 on the year with a 0.97 WHIP and 105:18 K:BB across 90 innings. Skubal is lined up for another tough matchup next week at home versus the Phillies.   • David Bednar works perfect frame for 16th save
    David Bednar hurled a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Reds to record his 16th save of the season.

    Advice: Bednar got the call to protect a one-run lead in the ninth inning and needed just 11 pitches (eight strikes) to set down the heart of Cincinnati’s lineup. He got Elly De La Cruz to pop up and Spencer Steer to fly out before coaxing a game-ending fly out from Jake Fraley to slam the door.     Bassitt didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Boston, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: Bassitt allowed fewer than four runs for a ninth consecutive start, stranding five Red Sox across six innings. The 35-year-old surrendered at least seven hits for the fourth time this season but wound up generating his seventh quality start of the campaign.   • Walker Buehler (ineffective) could land on IL
    The Dodgers are considering stashing Walker Buehler on the injured list after his poor performance at Coors Field against the Rockies on Tuesday.

    Advice: It appears this was being discussed even before Buehler gave up seven runs to Colorado, and now the Dodgers have a perfect excuse after Buehler was hit in the hip by a comebacker tonight. Buehler has a 5.84 ERA in eight starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, and the Dodgers are about to get Bobby Miller back from the IL, though he’ll be going into Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s slot.     Phillips struck out the only batter he faced to earn the save in Tuesday's 11-9 win over the Rockies.

    Advice: Alex Vesia issued a two-out walk, and Phillips was able to strike out Hunter Goodman on five pitches to secure the save after the Dodgers' ninth-inning comeback. Aside from a three-run misstep in Pittsburgh on June 6, Phillips has pitched well since his return from a hamstring injury.     Buehler allowed seven runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two over four innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Tuesday.

    Advice: Buehler has struggled at times this season since he returned from Tommy John surgery, and a trip to Coors Field did him no favors for getting on track. He's struck out three or fewer batters in each of his last three starts, and this was the third time this season he's given up multiple home runs in an outing. Buehler is at a 5.84 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB with 10 homers allowed over 37 innings across eight starts. He's projected to make his next start on the road versus the White Sox, though Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports that Buehler took a comebacker off the hip in Tuesday's game, which has generated some concern from manager Dave Roberts. Roberts added that Buehler may require a stint on the injured list, stretching thin a rotation that's also missing Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) but that at least will get Bobby Miller (shoulder) back Wednesday.     Advice: Sigh. Buehler’s velocity tonight was his worst since his rejoined the roster, and he got just three missed swings in his 70 pitches. That he was hit in the hip by a comebacker might have played some role in his struggles. We wouldn’t go dropping Buehler, who is still in a terrific situation with the Dodgers, but his early results in his first six weeks back from Tommy John definitely haven’t been as encouraging as hoped.     Evan Phillips notched a one-out save against the Rockies on Tuesday.

    Chris Bassitt allowed two earned runs over six innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Red Sox.

    Advice: Despite allowing nine baserunners on the evening, Bassitt managed to hold the Red Sox to just two earned runs, and pitched out of a jam with runners on to close out the sixth inning. The veteran righty continues to be a solid option in the middle of the Jays’ rotation, and has allowed just four earned runs over 18 innings in the month of June.
