• Austin Riley (side) out for 12th consecutive game
Austin Riley (side) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Pirates.

Advice: Yikes. Riley has progressed to taking batting practice without any issues, but it appears the Braves don’t want to take any chances here. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker told reports Friday that he doesn’t expect Riley back until Monday’s series opener against the Nationals. The 27-year-old fantasy star hasn’t played since May 12 and will miss his 12th consecutive contest on Saturday afternoon at PNC Park. It’ll be Zack Short drawing another start at the hot corner in his absence. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:14 am

  • Sitting as expected
Riley (side) isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Manager Brian Snitker said Friday that Riley is likely to sit out until Atlanta begins its series against the Nationals on Monday, so the third baseman's absence Saturday isn't too surprising. Zack Short will continue starting at third base while Riley misses his 12th consecutive game. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:10 am

  • Austin Riley (side) takes batting practice Friday
Austin Riley (side) took batting practice on the field prior to Friday’s game without any issues.

Advice: The 27-year-old slugger is not in the Braves’ lineup on Friday night — the 11th consecutive game that he has missed due to a sore side. He continues to make progress though, and it’s possible he could be available off the bench at some point over the weekend. He’s tentatively expected to return to the lineup on Monday against the Nationals. Rotoworld Friday, 2:39 pm

  • Likely to return Monday
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker noted Friday that Riley (side) is likely to remain out until Monday's series opener against the Nationals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Riley has been sidelined due to a left intercostal strain he sustained May 12 against the Mets. Despite the length of his absence, Atlanta did not place the 27-year-old third baseman on the 10-day IL in hopes he could return sooner, but Riley appears on track to rejoin the lineup following a weekend series against the Pirates. Prior to his injury, Riley was slashing .245/.319/.388 with eight doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI over 163 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:11 pm

  • Still not starting

Advice: Riley will miss an 11th consecutive start Friday with a left intercostal strain. Despite the lengthy absence, it seems Riley is close to returning after swinging a bat Tuesday. Zack Short will start at third and bat ninth Friday. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:03 pm
