    Ryan Helsley tossed a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to earn the save in the second game of a doubleheader against the Braves on Wednesday.

    Advice: Helsley was summoned to close it out in the ninth with a three-run lead against the Braves. He recorded the first out, then allowed two runners on with a single and a walk. A groundout put both runners in scoring position and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs. He Helsley struck out the final batter to end the game with his MLB-leading 28th save.   • Grayson Rodriguez goes seven strong in win
    Grayson Rodriguez allowed two runs across seven innings in a 4-2 win over the Guardians. He struck out four without walking a batter.

    Advice: Rodriguez’s changeup was especially lethal in this one: dropping three inches more than his season average and forcing five swings and misses. He ended his day on a beautiful one low and out of the zone to Brayan Rocchio that got him through seven innings for the second time in three starts.     Reds’ manager David Bell told reporters that Jeimer Candelario was held out of the team’s starting lineup on Wednesday due to hamstring tendinitis.

    Advice: The injury isn’t believed to be serious, and sounds like something the 30-year-old slugger has been dealing with for a while. He’s considered day-to-day.     Reds manager David Bell clarified Wednesday that Candelario is dealing with hamstring tendinitis and is considered day-to-day, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

    Advice: Candelario has been nursing the issue for more than a week, with Bell saying before Wednesday's loss to the Pirates that the injury is "progressively not getting better." However, the team doesn't seem to have any plans at this time to put Candelario on the 10-day injured list.   • Matt Vierling clobbers leadoff home run in loss
    Matt Vierling clobbered a leadoff home run off of Spencer Turnbull on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Tigers past the Phillies.

    Advice: The 27-year-old slugger evened the score at a run apiece when he crushed the second pitch that Turnbull threw for a 413-foot (106.1 mph EV) solo shot to start the home half of the first inning. He also smacked a leadoff double off of Jose Alvarado to start the ninth inning, finishing the day 2-for-4. For the season, Vierling is now hitting .254/.288/.449 with 10 dingers and 32 RBI. Bell noted that Candelario is still able to play but added that the infielder will be re-evaluated later Wednesday as the club decides how to best handle the situation. With Noelvi Marte looking likely to return from an 80-game suspension Thursday to provide the club another option at third base, it's possible the Reds will choose to put Candelario on the injured list if they determine his knee would improve with some extended rest.
