• Sean Murphy (oblique) homers in rehab contest
Sean Murphy (oblique) homered on Tuesday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: Murphy caught seven innings behind the plate and also threw out a runner attempting to steal second base in this one. The 29-year-old backstop looked ready to return to the majors in this one, but he’ll presumably get at least a couple more contests under his belt before heading back to Atlanta. • Boone: DJ LeMahieu ‘on track’ for May 28 return
Aaron Boone told the Talkin’ Yanks podcast that he believes DJ LeMahieu (foot) is on track to return May 28.

Advice: That would be next Tuesday, for those curious. LeMahieu has been out for the entirety of 2024 while recovering from his foot fracture. The 35-year-old is currently on a rehab assignment, and he’ll likely continue that assignment through the end of the week. LeMahieu hasn’t been a valuable fantasy player over the last few years, but hitting in the New York lineup does add some intrigue. Rotoworld Today, 11:15 am

  • Tracking toward May 28 return
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday in an interview with Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that he expects LeMahieu (foot) to be activated from the 10-day injured list on May 28.

Advice: LeMahieu went 2-for-3 with three walks in six plate appearances during his two rehab games with Double-A Somerset following the resumption of his rehab assignment and is slated to be transferred to High-A Hudson Valley to continue rehabbing. Boone also reiterated that LeMahieu will be the team's primary third baseman when he returns from the 10-day injured list, though the plan is to mix in more off days for him initially since he's been on the shelf all season with a non-displaced fracture of his right foot. • Three hits in nightcap
D'Arnaud went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the second game of Monday's doubleheader split with the Padres.

Advice: The veteran catcher sat out Sunday's game and Monday's matinee after taking a foul tip off his facemask Friday, but d'Arnaud cleared the concussion protocol and looked none the worse for wear in his return to the lineup. He's slashing .274/.350/.509 through 120 plate appearances this season with five homers and 17 RBI, but with Sean Murphy (oblique) expected to begin a rehab assignment this week, d'Arnaud's stint as Atlanta's No. 1 backstop could come to a close by the end of the month. • Picks up 14th save
Helsley walked one and struck out none over a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Monday's 6-3 win over the Orioles.

Advice: Helsley hadn't pitched since last Tuesday, but he didn't show much rust. The closer is on a 10-inning scoreless streak, and he's earned seven saves and a win in that span. For the season, he's 14-for-15 in save chances with a 2-2 record, a 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB over 21 innings. Helsley's strong pitching has helped him go unquestioned as the Cardinals' closer this year, though the team's 21-26 record leaves some doubt about whether he can keep picking up saves at such a strong pace. • Helsley records 14th save Monday
Ryan Helsley picked up his 14th save of the season against the Orioles on Monday.

Advice: Helsley pitched another scoreless ninth inning, which was his 15th consecutive appearance without allowing an earned run. He walked Austin Hays with two outs before getting Cedric Mullens to fly out to end the game. Helsley last allowed an earned run on April 8th. Since then he has converted 11 saves and finished 14 games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:02 pm
  • Loses perfect ERA
Holmes (1-1) allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while taking a loss against the Mariners on Monday. He blew a save chance and recorded only two outs.

Advice: Holmes entered Monday with zero earned runs allowed through 20 innings this season. Seattle chipped away at him with singles and walks to plate four runs and take the lead in the ninth inning. Holmes' ERA jumped to 1.74 as he was handed his first loss of the year. He's converted 13 of his 15 save chances while registering a 23:6 K:BB through 20.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:24 pm

  • Dominates Rays
Houck (4-5) yielded two hits and a walk over seven shutout frames Monday, striking out five and earning a win over Tampa Bay.

Advice: Houck was terrific Monday and didn't let any baserunners reach scoring position. It was his fourth scoreless start of the year, dropping his season ERA to 1.94 through 65 frames. Houck entered Monday's start on a four-game losing streak over his previous five starts. However, he registered an impressive 2.87 ERA during that span. Houck's next start is projected to be at home against the Brewers this weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:58 pm

  • Holmes blows second save Monday
Clay Holmes blew his second save of the season against the Mariners on Monday.

Advice: Holmes hadn’t allowed an earned run all season. He entered with a 4-1 lead against the Mariners. After a Josh Rojas ground to begin the ninth inning, the floodgates opened. Julio Rodriguez hit an infield single. Cal Raleigh walked. Luke Raley hit an infield single and Gleyber Torres threw the ball into the Yankees dugout to make it 4-2. Mitch Haniger singled to center to make it 4-3. Dylan Moore walked. Dominic Canzone hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Ty France singled on a ground ball to give the Mariners the lead. In all, Holmes allowed four earned runs and only recorded two outs without allowing any hard contact. His ERA is up to 1.74 on the season.
