    • Allows run but converts save
Estevez allowed a run on two hits and a walk without striking out a batter over one inning, earning the save in Monday's 9-7 win over the Astros.

Advice: Estevez's last two outings came in non-save situations after he blew a save May 10 versus the Royals. The closer is now 7-for-10 in save chances this season, though there are some warning signs reemerging after he struggled late in 2023. He's now at a 5.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB through 15.2 innings this season. As long as the walk rate stays down, Estevez should be able to right the ship, but he's allowed multiple baserunners in six of his last 10 outings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:19 pm
    • Carlos Estévez records save after allowing run
Carlos Estévez picked up his seventh save despite giving up a run in the ninth Monday against the Astros.

Advice: Estévez gave up two hits and a walk after the outstanding fortune of Jo Adell denying Yainer Diaz a possible homer or at least a double to begin the inning. Estévez is sporting a 5.17 ERA through 15 2/3 innings this season, and he’s lucky that neither Robert Stephenson (out for the season) or José Soriano (in the rotation) is currently an alternative in the closer’s role for the Angels. • Successful bullpen session
Pepiot (leg) threw a three-inning bullpen session ahead of Friday's game against the Blue Jays, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Pepiot continues to make progress toward a return, as he's now thrown three successful bullpen sessions. His activation could come as soon as the Rays' upcoming series against the Red Sox, though no final decision has been reached. Rotowire.com Sunday, 12:06 am

    • Forced to abandon save opportunity
Adam allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one across two-thirds of an inning to earn a hold Thursday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Adam entered the game in the ninth inning and was in line to earn the save, but he was forced to exit after the Rays' exceeded their limit for mound visits. He was laboring toward the end of the outing, having allowed each of the last two batters he faced to reach base. Though it wasn't his most dominant appearance, Adam has been excellent this season and has turned in six consecutive scoreless outings. He could be a candidate for save chances moving forward on occasions when Pete Fairbanks is unavailable or used in high-leverage situations earlier in a contest. • Takes extra-innings loss
Alvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.

Advice: Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame with the score tied 4-4 and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to J.D. Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to give the Mets an insurance run. Through 18.2 innings, Alvarado owns a 3.86 ERA and is 8-for-8 in save chances. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:43 pm

    • Taking steps toward return
Pepiot (leg) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is likely to throw a simulated game in the near future, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The exact next steps for Pepiot are unclear, but he is on the road with the team and is still aiming to return after a minimum term on the 15-day injured list. If he can reach that goal, he would line up to start at some point during the Rays' homestand next week against the Red Sox and Royals. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:55 pm

    • Grabs third save
Adam tossed one scoreless inning to pick up the save Monday against the Red Sox. He walked one and struck out three.

Advice: With Pete Fairbanks unavailable due to a cut on his throwing hand, Adam was called upon Monday to close the door for his third save. Adam, who served as the Rays' main end-game option while Fairbanks was on the shelf prior to his return on May 11, will likely remain the preferred option until Fairbanks is ready to return from his most recent setback. • Locks up eighth save
Alvarado picked up the save Monday against the Mets. He pitched a clean inning with no strikeouts.

Advice: Alvarado collected his first save since May 5 on Monday night, requiring just nine pitches to retire the Mets in the tenth inning. Outside of yielding five runs on Opening Day, the 28-year-old lefty has been a stalwart, firing a 1.06 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 17 innings since then. Alvarado will continue to split saves with the rest of the talented Phillies bullpen but should collect the bulk of opportunities. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:13 pm

    • José Alvarado collects eighth save on Monday
José Alvarado tossed a scoreless 10th inning on Monday against the Mets to notch his eighth save of the season.

Advice: Alvarado got the call to guard a one-run lead in the 10th inning after the Phillies finally pulled ahead and needed just nine pitches (seven strikes) to end it. The hard-throwing 28-year-old stopper has converted all eight of his save chances this season to go along with a solid 3.57 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 16/7 K/BB ratio across 17 2/3 innings (19 appearances).
