• Back in lineup, hitting third
Judge (hand) will start in center field and bat third in Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: Judge was removed from Tuesday's 4-2 win over Baltimore after being hit by a pitch on the left hand and sat out Wednesday's 7-6 loss, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in the series finale Thursday. He and his teammates will face left-hander Cole Irvin. Rotowire.com Today, 11:13 am

  • Third opinion, surgery recommended
Gasser is mulling whether to have surgery on his left elbow after a third opinion concurred with the second that an operation is likely needed at some point, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gasser is dealing with UCL damage in the elbow, and the Brewers are leaving the decision of surgery or rest and rehab up to the 25-year-old left-hander. He's been shut down from throwing for nearly three weeks already, so Gasser is facing a lengthy ramp-up even if he opts for the non-surgical route. If he decides to have surgery, Gasser would likely be sidelined for at least one year. Rotowire.com Today, 7:09 am

  • Activation possible this weekend
Abreu (ankle) could be activated from the 10-day injured list during this weekend's series against the Reds, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Abreu played the second game of a rehab assignment for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, starting in right field, and signaled his readiness for an activation by launching two solo home runs. He's expected to serve as Worcester's DH on Thursday and should rejoin the Red Sox on Friday or Saturday. Rotowire.com Today, 5:11 am

  • Swipes two bags in win
Henderson went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Yankees.

Advice: Henderson has gone 16-for-51 (.314) with three home runs and three steals during his 12-game hitting streak. While he's struck out 16 times over that span, he's still making enough contact to be a huge positive atop the Orioles' lineup. For the season, the star shortstop is at a .273/.371/.582 slash line with a career-best 11 steals as well as 22 homers, 49 RBI and 59 runs scored over 72 contests. • Wilyer Abreu on track to return over weekend
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters on Wednesday that Wilyer Abreu (ankle) is on track to rejoin the Red Sox over the weekend.

Advice: The 24-year-old will play the outfield on Wednesday evening at Triple-A Worcester and is expected to serve as their designated hitter on Thursday. The team hasn’t yet decided whether Abreu will return on Friday or Saturday, but as long as he makes it through the next two games unscathed, his return appears imminent. • Aaron Judge (hand) not in Yankees lineup Wednesday
Aaron Judge (hand) is not in the Yankees’ starting lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Orioles.

Advice: The 32-year-old superstar took a pitch off of his left hand during Tuesday’s game, but fortunately X-rays and a CT scan came back negative for any structural damage. Judge reported feeling sore on Wednesday but was able to take some swings in the batting cage. He won’t require a trip to the injured list and should return to the Bombers’ lineup any day now. • Not in Wednesday's lineup
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Judge (hand) won't be in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Orioles, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

Advice: X-rays and a CT scan on Judge's left hand came back negative after he exited Tuesday's 4-2 win over Baltimore when he was hit by pitch. According to Meredith Marakovits of YES Network, Boone said that Judge took some swings in the batting cage Wednesday and is expected to avoid a trip to the injured list, but the slugger is still sore and will miss at least one start. Judge likely won't be available off the bench Wednesday, but the hope is he'll be able to return to action for Thursday's series finale. Trent Grisham will replace Judge in center field Wednesday. • Out against left-hander
McCarthy is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Nationals.

Advice: Left-hander Patrick Corbin is toeing the slab for the Nationals, so the lefty-hitting McCarthy will begin the game on the bench. Randal Grichuk will patrol right field for the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:51 am
  • Launches 18th homer
Santander went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: The 29-year-old spoiled a combined shutout bid for New York when he took Clay Holmes deep in the top of the ninth inning. Santander has slugged four homers in the last four games, continuing a massive June that has seen him slash .292/.347/.738 with nine of his 18 long balls on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:07 am
