• Progressing slowly
Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Verlander's (neck) progress has been "slower than we expected," Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Verlander was scratched of his most recently scheduled start this past weekend against the Tigers because of neck discomfort. The club had been hoping he would be ready to start Thursday versus the White Sox, and while Espada didn't seem to officially rule Verlander out for the series finale in Chicago, he now appears likely to be pushed back again. Houston could have Spencer Arrighetti and Ronel Blanco both move up a day to start on Thursday and Friday, respectively, which would keep both pitchers on their typical four days' rest. The arrangement would also give Verlander a couple extra days to heal up if the team thinks he could take the ball Saturday versus the Orioles. A stint on the injured list for Verlander also can't be ruled out. Rotowire.com Today, 11:03 am

Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters Tuesday that Justin Verlander (neck) may not be ready to start Thursday against the White Sox.

Advice: Espada said that Verlander’s progress from his neck injury is going “slower than expected.” The right-hander was scratched from his start against the Tigers on Saturday because of that discomfort, and while there was hope he could make his next scheduled trip to the mound, that’s very much in doubt. Fantasy managers who roster Verlander will want to pay attention to the situation. Rotoworld Today, 10:49 am

  • Looks good in rehab start
Wacha (foot) struck out six and gave up two hits and no walks over four scoreless innings in his rehab start Monday with the Royals' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.

Advice: Royals manager Matt Quatraro said prior to the outing that Wacha might need just the one rehab start before returning from the 15-day injured list and rejoining the major-league rotation this weekend against the Rangers. Given how well he pitched, Wacha looks to be a good bet to be activated this weekend, either on Saturday or Sunday. He's been sidelined since early June with a non-displaced left foot fracture. • Starting rehab assignment Wednesday
Cabrera (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Marlins have signed off on Cabrera advancing the final phase of his rehab program from a right shoulder impingement after he came out of a live bullpen session Monday without issue. According to De Nicola, the Marlins are targeting Cabrera for three innings or 50 pitches Wednesday, so he'll likely require an additional rehab outing beyond that to get fully stretched out for a typical starter's workload.
