  • Reds call up Graham Ashcraft to start Wednesday
    Reds recalled RHP Graham Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville.

    Advice: Ashcraft, who had a 3.00 ERA in his two starts for Louisville after being sent down earlier this month, will start against the Pirates today. The Reds weren’t wanting to bring him back quite this soon, but Nick Lodolo’s blister created a need. Scherzer was scheduled for a light bullpen session Tuesday, and if all went well, he should get the green light to take the hill Friday with few restrictions, if any. Ashcraft was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the month after putting up a 5.05 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 62.1 innings over 12 starts, and he's bounced back nicely with Louisville, giving up four earned runs in 12 innings while striking out 12 batters and walking two. The 26-year-old righty will almost certainly make multiple starts during his stint with the Reds, but he'll likely be pushed back to Triple-A once Lodolo returns from the IL.   • Brayan Bello shellacked in loss to Blue Jays
    Brayan Bello allowed seven runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

    Advice: Bello held the Blue Jays scoreless for the first two innings, but the wheels fell off in a big way in the third inning. The first six batters of the inning reached before Bello could get a groundout, but then a home run to George Springer chased him from the game. The right-hander did get six whiffs on 20 swings in his limited time but he threw on 42 percent of his pitches in the strike zone and had no feel for anything on the night. After a strong start to the season, Bello has struggled over his final seven starts, and the loss of feel for his changeup, which has been his primary pitch in his young career, is concerning.   • Josiah Gray sharp on Tuesday in rehab outing
    Josiah Gray (elbow) allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester.

    Advice: Gray struck out four, didn’t hand out a free pass, and got up to around 90 pitches in his latest rehab outing. The 26-year-old righty should be ready to return to Washington’s starting rotation at some point later this week or early next week.   • Shifts to 60-day IL
    The Brewers transferred Gasser (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Gasser will be out for the rest of the season and most of the 2025 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery Monday, so his move to the 60-day IL is hardly a surprise.
