• Reds call up Graham Ashcraft to start Wednesday
Reds recalled RHP Graham Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Ashcraft, who had a 3.00 ERA in his two starts for Louisville after being sent down earlier this month, will start against the Pirates today. The Reds weren’t wanting to bring him back quite this soon, but Nick Lodolo’s blister created a need. Ashcraft was struggling before the demotion, having posted a 5.05 ERA overall and a 6.83 ERA in his final six starts. Rotoworld Today, 7:23 am

  • Recalled ahead of start
The Reds recalled Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Advice: Ashcraft will get the start Wednesday against the Pirates, taking the rotation spot of the injured Nick Lodolo (finger). The right-hander has struggled at the big-league level this season, collecting a 5.05 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 62.1 innings over 12 starts. He appeared to get back on track in two starts with Louisville, giving up a total of four runs with a 12:2 K:BB over 12 innings. Ashcraft will likely be needed for multiple starts and will try to make a case to stick in the Reds rotation indefinitely. Rotowire.com Today, 7:08 am

  • Early exit against Jays
Bello (7-5) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up seven runs on five hits and three walks over 2.1 innings as the Red Sox were downed 9-4 by the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

Advice: All seven runs crossed the plate in a disastrous third inning that saw Bello put the first six batters on base before ceding an RBI groundout to former teammate Justin Turner. The right-hander has been tagged for four runs or more in five of his last eight starts, and he carries a bloated 7.49 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 37:20 K:BB through 39.2 innings over that stretch. Bello will try to get back on track in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Padres. Rotowire.com Today, 6:04 am

  • Experiences thumb soreness in debut
Scherzer said Monday that he was removed after five innings in his season debut in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Royals due to thumb soreness, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Rangers are monitoring the situation and have no plans yet to move his next start, which is scheduled for Friday in Baltimore. Scherzer was scheduled for a light bullpen session Tuesday, and if all went well, he should get the green light to take the hill Friday with few restrictions, if any. Rotowire.com Today, 5:42 am
  • Graham Ashcraft starting Wednesday vs. Pirates
Graham Ashcraft will start on Wednesday against the Pirates.

Advice: Ashcraft will get the call back to the majors to take the ball in place of Nick Lodolo, who landed on the injured list with a blister issue. The 26-year-old righty holds a lackluster 5.05 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 49/21 K/BB ratio across 62 1/3 innings (12 starts) this season in the big leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:27 pm

  • Headed to majors
The Reds will recall Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville to start against the Pirates on Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Ashcraft had been one of the candidates to replace Nick Lodolo (finger) in the Reds' rotation, and it now appears the spot is officially his. Ashcraft was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the month after putting up a 5.05 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 62.1 innings over 12 starts, and he's bounced back nicely with Louisville, giving up four earned runs in 12 innings while striking out 12 batters and walking two. The 26-year-old righty will almost certainly make multiple starts during his stint with the Reds, but he'll likely be pushed back to Triple-A once Lodolo returns from the IL. • Brayan Bello shellacked in loss to Blue Jays
Brayan Bello allowed seven runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Advice: Bello held the Blue Jays scoreless for the first two innings, but the wheels fell off in a big way in the third inning. The first six batters of the inning reached before Bello could get a groundout, but then a home run to George Springer chased him from the game. The right-hander did get six whiffs on 20 swings in his limited time but he threw on 42 percent of his pitches in the strike zone and had no feel for anything on the night. After a strong start to the season, Bello has struggled over his final seven starts, and the loss of feel for his changeup, which has been his primary pitch in his young career, is concerning. • Josiah Gray sharp on Tuesday in rehab outing
Josiah Gray (elbow) allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Gray struck out four, didn’t hand out a free pass, and got up to around 90 pitches in his latest rehab outing. The 26-year-old righty should be ready to return to Washington’s starting rotation at some point later this week or early next week. He’s been on the shelf since early April due to a flexor strain in his right elbow. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:31 pm

  • Shifts to 60-day IL
The Brewers transferred Gasser (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gasser will be out for the rest of the season and most of the 2025 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery Monday, so his move to the 60-day IL is hardly a surprise. He'll give up his 40-man roster spot to right-hander Joel Kuhnel, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:35 pm
