• Takes extra-inning loss
Fernandez (0-1) allowed an unearned run on two hits in one inning, taking the extra-inning loss versus the White Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Fernandez gave up an RBI single to Tommy Pham, and that ended up being the difference in Saturday's contest. Over his last five outings, Fernandez has covered 6.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) with a 9:2 K:BB. He's been used as a low-leverage reliever so far, but the rookie right-hander has been solid with a 2.70 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB over 13.1 innings in that role. Rotowire.com 59 minutes ago
  • Zack Thompson could be option for Cards on Friday
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol told reporters that Zack Thompson could be an option for St. Louis on Friday against the Brewers.

Advice: Marmol told reporters that Thompson was not in consideration for Sunday’s start as they want the 26-year-old to continue to work on things. Matthew Liberatore is getting the start Sunday, but depending on how things go, St. Louis may not have a choice but to go with Thompson over the weekend. Rotoworld Today, 9:33 am

  • Javier (neck) could rejoin Astros during road trip
Cristian Javier (neck) could rejoin the Astros rotation during their upcoming road trip.

Advice: Javier didn’t pitch particularly well Saturday during his rehab start with Double-A Corpus Christi, but the three runs allowed over 3 1/3 innings aren’t what’s important. What does matter is that Javier felt good after the start, and he was able to throw 68 pitches. The Astros really need the rotation help right now, and while they won’t rush Javier back, the chance for a return in the next week or so looks promising. Rotoworld Today, 9:20 am

  • Shifts to Triple-A's 60-day IL
Triple-A Round Rock transferred Church (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Advice: Church doesn't look as though he'll be ready to return to action for Round Rock until around mid-June while he recovers from a right shoulder strain. The 23-year-old reliever was originally placed on Round Rock's 7-day IL on April 18 due to the injury. Rotowire.com Today, 9:19 am

  • Returns from IL on Friday
Kelly (shoulder) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Friday and struck out one over a scoreless inning of relief in Triple-A Round Rock's 13-1 win over Albuquerque.

Advice: Kelly was shelved for just under a month with a shoulder injury before he returned to action for Round Rock earlier this week. The southpaw has made four appearances out of the Triple-A bullpen this season, striking out six while allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 9:17 am
  • Jose Urquidy (forearm) has live BP moved to Tuesday
Jose Urquidy (forearm) had his live bullpen session pushed back to Tuesday.

Advice: Urquidy was scheduled to make that live BP session Sunday, but he’ll get a couple extra days before returning. The right-hander was able to throw 30 pitches in a similar session Wednesday, and he likely will up that total a smidgen once it takes place. Urquidy could be back with the Astros and their injury-riddled rotation by the end of May. Rotoworld Today, 9:17 am

  • Faces hitters in live session
Senga (shoulder) completed a 32-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Facing hitters in extended live BP session marks a major milestone in Senga's recovery from a right posterior shoulder capsule strain, which caused him to miss most of spring training and resulted in him opening the season on the 15-day injured list before he was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 10. He won't be eligible to make his season debut until May 27, but Senga appears on target to return on or around that date based on where he currently stands in his recovery. The Mets will see how he bounces back from Saturday's throwing session over the next couple of days before deciding whether he's ready to report to a minor-league affiliate to begin a rehab assignment, or if he'll need to throw another live BP before doing so. • Throws in XST
Sewald (oblique) threw an inning in an extended spring training game Saturday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sewald came out of the session feeling good, and if he continues to respond to activity the same way, the Diamondbacks plan to activate him for the series opener against the Reds on Tuesday. He's expected to resume his role as the team's closer after saving 13 of 15 opportunities following his acquisition from Seattle at the trade deadline in 2023. Rotowire.com Today, 8:48 am

  • Senga (shoulder) throws 32 pitches in live BP
Kodai Senga (shoulder) threw 32 pitches in his live bullpen session Saturday.

Advice: Senga has now faced live hitters twice this week. The Mets will now determine the next steps for the right-hander in the coming days, as they want to see how he responds before deciding when he’ll begin a rehab assignment. There’s a very good chance he does begin that assignment at this point, however, and he’s on track to make his return around May 27 — the earliest Senga can be activated off the 60-day IL.
