    • Gerrit Cole (elbow) faces hitters again Saturday
Gerrit Cole (elbow) faced hitters on Saturday in a simulated game.

Advice: The emergence of dynamic righty Luis Gil has lessened the urgency for New York to rush Cole back in their starting rotation mix. The 33-year-old righty hasn’t ruled out a potential June return, but he’s going to need to progress to at least a handful of minor league rehab starts to build up his pitch count and stamina before that happens. • Melts down against Giants
Garrett (5-2) took the loss Friday against the Giants, coughing up five runs on four hits and a walk in the eighth inning.

Advice: The big blow was a grand slam by Patrick Bailey as Garrett squandered a 6-2 lead. The 31-year-old right-hander has been tagged with the loss in each of his last two appearances, and he's given up seven of his eight earned runs on the season in his last six innings, a poor stretch that has come as he's moved into the late-inning mix due to Edwin Diaz's own poor form. Garrett's stumbles have added more than two points to his ERA, but he still sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB through 27 frames. Rotowire.com Today, 7:38 am

    • Throws six shutout innings
Rodon (6-2) earned the win Friday over the Padres, pitching six shutout innings while allowing three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Advice: Rodon wasn't dominant, but the Padres' offense didn't find much success. This was a fourth straight quality start for the southpaw, who has won all of those outings while allowing just five runs over 24.1 innings. Rodon has had just one bad start this season -- May 2 in Baltimore, when he got tagged for six earned runs over four innings. He has a 2.95 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 57:19 K:BB over 61 innings through 11 starts on the season. The 31-year-old is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels in a favorable matchup. • Carlos Rodón blanks Padres over six in victory
Carlos Rodón blanked the Padres over six innings to pick up a win Friday.

Advice: This was far from Rodón at his most dominant, as the left-hander only struck out two batters. It was still an effective outing for the 31-year-old, as he allowed just three hits and eliminated any traffic that San Diego put up against the southpaw. Rodón has been much more effective in 2024 — a bit of faint praise considering his struggles in 2023 — and he’s lowered his ERA to 2.95 with these shutout frames. The Yankees and fantasy managers should be pleased with what they’ve seen, even if the metrics suggest a smidgen of good luck thus far. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:26 pm
    • Shota Imanaga pushed back until next week
Shota Imanaga will have his start pushed back until next week after Friday’s game against the Cardinals was postponed due to rain.

Advice: The 30-year-old southpaw did all of his pregame work and was ready to go before the rains came and wiped out Friday’s contest. The Cubs will stick with Jameson Taillon and Javier Assad for the final two games over the weekend, with Imanaga now set to take the hill against the Brewers next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:07 pm
    • Friday start rained out
Imanaga and the Cubs won't play the Cardinals on Friday due to inclement weather, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Thursday's contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader July 13, and Imanaga's next outing will be pushed back to Chicago's upcoming series in Milwaukee early next week, per Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:50 pm
    • Facing hitters again Saturday
Cole (elbow) will throw a live batting practice session Saturday, Chris Kirschner of The Athleticreports.

Advice: It will be the second time Cole has faced live hitters, with his first session taking place Tuesday when he threw about 20 pitches. While Cole is eligible to return from the 60-day IL at the end of May, he'll need multiple rehab starts before joining the Yankees' rotation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:39 pm

    • Stuck with first loss
Garrett (5-1) took the loss Wednesday against Cleveland, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in one inning. He struck out two.

Advice: After entering with the game tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Garrett allowed a leadoff single to David Fry, who advanced to second on a wild pitch before eventually scoring on a Johnathan Rodriguez base hit. It's the first loss of the year for the 31-year-old Garrett -- he's allowed just two earned runs in his last 13.1 innings. Despite Wednesday's setback, Garrett's emerged as a top option in the Mets' bullpen and could see the occasional save chance with Edwin Diaz temporarily shifting to a lower-leverage role. Overall, Garrett sports a 1.04 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP while posting a stellar 14.9 K/9 across 26 innings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:35 am

    • Nabs win in 10th
Bednar (3-3) picked up the win Tuesday, striking out one in a perfect 10th inning during a 7-6 victory over the Giants.

Advice: After the Pirates rallied for four runs in the ninth, Bednar got the call for the top of the 10th and set down three straight pinch hitters in Mike Yastrzemski, LaMonte Wade and Patrick Bailey. The right-hander then got rewarded when Nick Gonzales walked it off by singling on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the frame. Bednar has turned things around following a bumpy first month of the season, and over 10 appearances in May he's posted a 2.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB through 9.1 innings while converting all five of his save chances and chipping in two wins.
