    • Spencer Howard goes four scoreless in relief
Spencer Howard shut out the Phillies for four innings in his bulk role Tuesday.

Advice: It sounded like Howard would be the second pitcher in tonight, but he instead entered in the fourth after Erik Miller and Taylor Rogers combined on three scoreless innings. He then kept his old team scoreless through the seventh. It didn’t get him a win, but he might have earned a chance to stick around. The 27-year-old was making his 2024 MLB debut after posting a 5.90 ERA in 10 starts for Sacramento. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:39 pm
    • Ryan Stanek notches third save for Mariners
Ryne Stanek picked up his third save with a perfect ninth Tuesday against the Astros.

Advice: Andrés Muñoz worked the previous two days, so he had this one off. Stanek has a 4.26 ERA and a 21/6 K/BB in 19 innings as the primary fallback in the Seattle pen. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:01 pm

    • Ryan Pressly takes fourth blown save, second loss
Ryan Pressly took his fourth blown save and second loss after giving up three runs — two earned — in the eighth inning Tuesday against the Mariners.

Advice: Pressly’s velocity is down some, but his peripherals remain strong. Nevertheless, he’s sporting a 5.31 ERA at the moment. He’s given up half as many hits (27) in 20 1/3 innings this year that he did in 65 1/3 innings last season (54). If the Astros ever do lose Josh Hader for a time, they might have to turn to Bryan Abreu over Pressly in the closer’s role. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:00 pm
    • Takes blown save
Holmes allowed two hits in one-third of an inning, taking a blown save in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Holmes inherited two runners from Luke Weaver and allowed both to score on a Taylor Ward double that flipped the Yankees' one-run lead to a one-run deficit. While he wasn't charged with either run, Holmes ended up taking his third blown save of the season, two of which have come in his last four outings. Despite the recent troubles, he's still at a 1.54 ERA and 26:6 K:BB this year, though his 1.24 WHIP is less encouraging. Holmes is still the Yankees' top closing option with 15 saves on the season. • Secures save Tuesday
Estevez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: The Angels rallied ahead in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Estevez made the lead stand. The closer has allowed four runs (three earned) over 8.1 innings in May while adding three saves, one blown save and two losses. He's at a 4.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB over 17 innings this season, but he continues to operate in the closer role despite his shaky pitching. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:45 pm
    • Carlos Estévez notches eighth save against Yankees
Carlos Estévez recorded his eighth save with a flawless ninth Tuesday against the Yankees.

Advice: The rare perfect inning from Estévez pulled his ERA back down to 4.76. He did go without a strikeout for a third straight appearance, but it’s unlikely that anyone with the Angels noticed. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:28 pm
    • Clay Holmes takes blown save against Angels
Clay Holmes took his third blown save after giving up two hits in the eighth Tuesday against the Angels.

Advice: Holmes wasn’t charged with a run. He was brought in after setup man extraordinaire Luke Weaver got into trouble in a 3-2 game in the eighth and gave up a two-run double to Taylor Ward to blow the lead. He then allowed a soft infield single versus the shift before finishing the inning. Obviously, it would have been nice if Holmes couldn’t have gotten out of the jam here, but allowing one well-hit ball doesn’t reflect all that poorly on him. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:28 pm
    • Collects second win
Smith (2-0) allowed a hit and struck out three without walking a batter over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday versus the Rockies.

Advice: Smith got the final out of the sixth inning and also pitched the seventh after the Guardians regained the lead. The rookie right-hander has an eight-inning scoreless streak going, and he's posted a 13:1 K:BB in that span while adding a save and three holds. Smith continues to see an increasing role in the late innings, one that he's earned by pitching to a 1.82 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB over 24.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:45 pm
    • Jake Woodford allows 3 ER in emergency start
Jake Woodford allowed three earned runs over 4 1/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: Called up for an emergency spot start in place of Mike Clevinger (elbow), Woodford gave up three earned runs in the second inning but limited the damage the rest of the way. He was pulled after giving up a one-out single to Danny Jansen but was solid in his first big league appearance of the season. Whether or not he’ll hang around beyond this outing is to be determined, but his next scheduled start would likely come on Tuesday against the Cubs. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:32 pm
