      Advice: Suzuki’s only hit of the day left the yard, a game-tying homer in the fifth inning off of Hayden Birdsong.       Cease (7-6) earned the win over Washington on Wednesday, pitching seven scoreless innings during which he allowed one hit and issued two walks while striking out nine batters.

      Advice: The only hit Cease surrendered during his seven frames was a two-out single by Nick Senzel in the fifth inning. Remarkably, this was the San Diego right-hander's third outing this season during which he gave up exactly one hit in seven frames, and he unsurprisingly has picked up a victory in all three of those starts. Cease had been struggling coming into Wednesday, giving up 11 runs over his previous two starts covering 8.1 innings during his worst two-game stretch of the campaign.       Advice: Arenado played all 18 innings Wednesday at third base in his return from a left forearm injury. He didn't make much of an impact at the plate, but it's encouraging to see the 33-year-old play both halves of the twin bill. He's down to a .254/.310/.364 slash line with six home runs, 32 RBI, 26 runs scored and one stolen base over 73 contests this year. The Cardinals have occasionally used Brandon Crawford and Brendan Donovan at the hot corner, and they could continue to be an option there if Arenado is out of the lineup or limited to designated hitter at any point in the future, as his forearm issue is believed to be a lingering one. Despite the impressive performance, Singer left the mound in line for his fifth loss before the Royals' offense woke up in the bottom of the eighth inning.       Dylan Cease delivered an impressive performance in Wednesday’s victory over the Nationals, racking up nine strikeouts over seven innings of shutout baseball.

      Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander allowed just one hit — a two-out single by Nick Senzel in the fifth inning — while issuing a pair of walks in the contest. Cease generated 16 swings and misses in the ballgame — nine of those on his slider — while registering a strong CSW of 33 percent.
