• Gets break Friday
Caballero is not in the lineup for Friday's matchup against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Caballero has started in the majority of games for Tampa Bay at shortstop this season, but he will get a break as the Rays kick off their series with Toronto. The 27-year-old has started all but five of the team's 45 games this season, slashing .252/.309/.360 with 17 stolen bases and 13 RBI. Amed Rosario will get the start in place of Caballero at shortstop and bat seventh against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago

  • Optioned to AAA
Shewmake was optioned to Triple-AAA Charlotte on Friday.

Advice: Shewmake will move back to Charlotte with Danny Mendick (back) being reinstated from the 10-day IL on Friday. The 26-year-old struggled during 29 games in the bigs, slashing .125/.134/.203 with one walk across 67 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

  • Abrams is back in the lineup Friday
CJ Abrams is back in the Nationals lineup, batting first against the Phillies on Friday.

Advice: Abrams was out of the lineup when the Nationals faced Garrett Crochet and the White Sox on Wednesday. It was a mostly routine day off with a tough matchup for the lefty. Abrams got off to a hot start this season, but is now hitting .205 with one home run and eight RBI over his last 20 games. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

  • Still hoping to avoid injured list
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Friday that Hoerner (hamstring) remains day-to-day and is still hopeful of avoiding the injured list, Ryan Herrera of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hoerner is missing a fourth straight start Friday after still feeling something in his left hamstring Thursday, per Counsell. While the skipper expressed hope that an IL won't be needed, he conceded that a move will be on the table if the issue continues to linger. With Dansby Swanson (knee) also out, the Cubs have been going with Miles Mastrobuoni and Nick Madrigal as their middle infield duo. Rotowire.com Today, 11:37 am

  • Remains out with hamstring issue
Hoerner (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Pirates.

Advice: It's the fourth straight game Hoerner has been out of the lineup due to tightness in his left hamstring. A stint on the injured list would seem to be a distinct possibility at this point given how much time Hoerner has missed, although there's been no indication from the Cubs yet that a move is coming. Miles Mastrobuoni and Nick Madrigal will again be tasked with middle infield duties for Chicago. Rotowire.com Today, 8:34 am

  • Takes live batting practice
Swanson (knee) took live batting practice Friday, Ryan Herrera of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Swanson landed on the 10-day injured list a week ago with a right knee injury. He'll be eligible for activation Saturday, but while it appears he is making progress, it seems unlikely that he will be ready at that time. With Nico Hoerner (hamstring) also banged up, the Cubs' shortstop depth has thinned, and Miles Mastrobuoni has started the last three games. Rotowire.com Today, 8:27 am

  • Will not be benched
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Monday that he has no plans to bench Baez, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Advice: "He's going to play, a lot," Hinch said. Baez has again been one of the least productive regulars from an offensive standpoint in baseball, slashing just .167/.200/.222 with one home run over 135 plate appearances. He's hit only .223/.265/.346 since signing a six-year, $140 million contract prior to the 2022 campaign. Baez also has graded out poorly defensively in 2024 with minus-4 Outs Above Average, although he was plus-9 in OAA in 2023 and the Tigers still seem happy with his defense. Given that the underwhelming Zach McKinstry would represent their likely alternative at shortstop, the Tigers appear willing to continue riding it out with Baez in hopes that he can rebound to at least a competent level at the plate. • Swipes second bag
Schuemann went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Astros.

Advice: Schuemann singled in his first at-bat before swiping his second bag of the season, though he would be left stranded as Oakland failed to generate any offense against a dominant Cristian Javier. The second baseman has now hit safely in five of his last six games, going 6-for-20 (.300) over that stretch with a homer, a double and four RBI. The stolen base was Schuemann's first since April 20 against the Guardians. Rotowire.com Today, 7:08 am

  • Electrifying in win
De La Cruz went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI, three runs scored and four stolen bases in Thursday's win over the Dodgers while also drawing a walk.

Advice: De La Cruz was a force to be reckoned with, reaching base five times and swiping at least one bag following each of his first three plate appearances. Those steals would lead to him scoring three runs, marking the third time this season he's accomplished that feat. It was also the star shortstop's first four-hit game on the campaign and his third game with three or more hits. De La Cruz has a whopping 30 stolen bases on the season following his first four-steal performance, sitting 13 ahead of the next closest player, Tampa Bay's Jose Caballero. Rotowire.com Today, 6:50 am
