    • On bench again Sunday
Melendez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: After he surprisingly found himself on the bench Saturday against right-hander Casey Mize, the lefty-hitting Melendez's absence from the lineup Sunday is more expected with ace southpaw Tarik Skubal starting for Detroit. Melendez still looks to have a hold on a strong-side platoon role in the Kansas City outfield, though his grip on a regular job may be loosening in the wake of his poor start to the season. He enters Sunday's contest slashing .198/.278/.407 on the campaign through 90 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 8:28 am
    • Swats homer in win
Mountcastle went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Athletics.

Advice: The long ball was Mountcastle's first hit in three games since he recovered from a minor knee issue. He posted multiple hits in seven of the 11 games prior to the injury. The first baseman has been solid this year, slashing .299/.364/.483 with three homers, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored and seven doubles over 99 plate appearances, though he has yet to attempt a stolen base. • Ryan Mountcastle blasts solo homer on Saturday
Ryan Mountcastle went 1-for-4 with a solo homer against the A’s on Saturday.

Advice: Mountcastle’s only hit of the day left the yard, going back-to-back with Adley Rutschman for a solo homer in the fifth inning off JP Sears. It was the second home run of the season for the 27-year-old first baseman to go with a .299/.364/.483 slash line and 12 RBI across 99 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:28 pm
    • Won't start Saturday
Melendez is not in the Royals' starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Melendez has gone 0-for-12 over his last four starts, reaching base once on a walk over that span. Dairon Blanco will start in left field and bat eighth against Tigers right-hander Casey Mize. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:14 pm
    • Josh Lowe battling tightness in right hamstring
Rays’ outfielder Josh Lowe won’t be activated from the injured list on Saturday as he is now battling tightness in his right hamstring.

Advice: Lowe had told reporters on Friday that he was feeling great and ready to go, but it turns out he suffered a hamstring injury while rehabbing his injured oblique and will head for an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of that injury. So much for the Rays getting their dynamic outfielder back quickly. Look for the Rays to provide a new timeline after they get the results of Monday’s exam. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:49 pm

    • Won't be activated from IL
Lowe (oblique) will not be activated off the 10-day injured list by the Rays this weekend due to tightness in his right hamstring, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe spent the past week progressing through his rehab assignment in the minors. He was expected to be activated from the IL on Saturday, but the 26-year-old now has a new injury to deal with, this time to his right hamstring. Topkin notes that Lowe was concerned about the risk of playing through the injury and missing more time. Lowe will fly back to Florida to receive an MRI on Monday, which will help provide a better idea as to when the outfielder will be able to return to the majors. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:33 pm

    • Picks up fourth save
Yates struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-1 win over the Reds.

Advice: Yates struck out Jonathan India and Jeimer Candelario to begin the ninth, giving him 13 punchouts in 11 innings out of the bullpen. The 37-year-old righty still has yet to allow a run this season, and he'll likely continue receiving the bulk of save opportunities as long as that remains the case. • Kirby Yates throws perfect ninth for save
Kirby Yates struck out two in a perfect ninth Friday for a save against the Reds.

Advice: It was Yates’ first appearance since his save Sunday. He threw 14 pitches tonight, so he should be available again Saturday. David Robertson could also be a threat for a save then, but Yates is the clear favorite in Texas right now. Rotoworld Friday, 11:22 pm

    • Expected back Saturday
Lowe (oblique) is expected to be activated from the injured list Saturday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Lowe has been on a rehab assignment for roughly a week, but he was with the big-league club in Chicago on Friday. He's projected to be activated Saturday to make his season debut and will almost certainly occupy a prominent spot in a struggling Rays' lineup. It will also be notable where Lowe plays defensively, as he started three games in center field during his rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:55 pm
