      Max Scherzer will make a rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

      Advice: It will be interesting to see how quickly the Rangers let Scherzer return from the minors. The 39-year-old has made a total of six minor league rehab starts during his 16-year career and never more than two during one IL stay. One would think a typical pitcher would get three or four in his situation (he missed the entire spring after back surgery and then made rehab start in April before injuring his thumb).     • Resuming rehab assignment Sunday
      Scherzer (back/arm) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

      Advice: Scherzer had to be pulled off his initial rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm, but he's been trending in the right direction in recent weeks after receiving a cortisone injection. The 39-year-old was initially placed on the injured list due to his recovery from offseason back surgery. Scherzer threw 40 pitches in a live batting practice session earlier this week, so he should be ready for at least that many pitches Sunday.       Seager (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

      Advice: The hamstring injury that caused Seager's departure from Wednesday's matchup with the Tigers is considered minor, but he'll still be out of the starting nine for at least one game. The 30-year-old is still on Texas' lineup card, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, and he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list.       Advice: Flaherty was pulled after 60 pitches in his last start due to back tightness but it seems as though he's avoided any significant injury and is all but confirmed to face Washington. Considering back injuries can be touch-and-go, there remains a small risk that the issue will flare up again.       Buehler didn't factor into the decision Thursday against Pittsburgh, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk over three innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: After needing 78 pitches to get through three frames, Buehler didn't come out for the fourth, marking the 29-year-old's shortest start of 2024. He surrendered a two-run home run to Nick Gonzales in the third inning, the right-hander's seventh long ball allowed in 28.0 innings. Buehler's been shaky since returning from Tommy John surgery, yielding exactly three runs in five of his six starts this season to fuel a 4.82 ERA.       Advice: Duran has multiple hits in four of his last five games, and he's gone yard in back-to-back contests. His homer Thursday came on Jake Woodford's second pitch of the game in the first inning, setting the tone for the Red Sox in their blowout win. Duran is up to five homers on the year, and he's added 27 RBI, 38 runs scored, 11 stolen base and a .271/.336/.465 slash line over 286 plate appearances.       Jarren Duran went 4-for-5 with a leadoff homer and two RBI on Thursday, leading the Red Sox to a 14-2 blowout victory over the White Sox.

      Advice: Duran spearheaded Boston’s 24-hit barrage on Thursday evening at Guaranteed Rate Field with a tone-setting leadoff homer against White Sox starter Jake Woodford. He also added a sixth-inning sacrifice fly and matched a season-high with four hits. It was the first time he’s accomplished the feat since back on April 3.     • Walker Buehler shaky in short outing vs. Pirates
      Walker Buehler was charged with four runs (three earned) over three innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

      Advice: Buehler was staked to a four-run lead before taking the mound at PNC Park, but it vanished by the third inning of this one as he was tagged for seven hits, including a two-run homer by Nick Gonzales. It wasn’t completely his fault as the Dodgers committed a pair of errors and weren’t able to make a couple catches on balls that ended up going for hits and drove up his pitch count in the process. He finished with three strikeouts and only issued one walk. The hard-throwing 29-year-old righty holds a lackluster 4.82 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio across 28 innings (six starts). He hasn’t quite returned to fantasy ace status yet, but it’s still early considering how much time he’s missed since undergoing his second Tommy John surgery.
