      Gore (4-5) took the loss Monday against the Mets, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Gore loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning before departing, unfortunately reliever Dylan Floro allowed all three runners to score, adding three earned runs to Gore's stat line. Monday's outing was very uncharacteristic for the southpaw, who recorded a season-low two strikeouts and allowed more than two earned runs for the first time since April 19. After tonight's rough outing, the 25-year-old sports a 3.57 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP and 74 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched.       Machado went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Angels.

      Advice: Machado's solo shot in the first inning was the lone run for the Padres in Monday's loss. He was intentionally walked twice and also stole his fourth base of the year. The long ball snapped a brutal 26-game drought since his last homer May 3; during that cold streak, he posted a .591 OPS.     • MacKenzie Gore allows six runs in loss to Mets
      MacKenzie Gore was shelled for six runs over 4 1/3 innings on Monday in a loss to the Mets.

      Advice: Gore struggled to find the strike zone, and also failed to generate swinging strikes in this one, which turned out to be a pretty toxic combination. He wound up handing out a season-high four free passes and also surrendered seven hits, including a towering 420-foot solo shot to Mets rookie slugger Mark Vientos. He finished with a season-low two strikeouts in arguably his worst outing of the season. He’ll aim for better results his next time out on Saturday against the division-rival Braves.     • Officially sent to Triple-A
      The Tigers optioned Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

      Advice: Multiple reports after the Tigers' 8-4 win over the Red Sox on Sunday suggested that Torkelson was en route to Triple-A, but Detroit waited until shortly before Monday's series opener in Texas to make the move official. Torkelson slugged 31 home runs last season, and many anticipated another step forward in 2024, but it simply hasn't come together, with the former top prospect slashing just .201/.266/.330 with four home runs across 229 plate appearances. He'll be back in the majors eventually, but a reset at Toledo was deemed necessary.       Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Saturday that Sosa could be an option to see reps in the outfield once shortstop Trea Turner (hamstring) returns from the 10-day injured list, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

      Advice: Sosa has logged a total of just 5.1 innings of outfield in the majors and has never started a game in the outfield in the professional ranks. He's been outstanding at shortstop since Turner got hurt, slashing .310/.380/.606 with three home runs in 22 games, which has the Phillies contemplating other ways of keeping him in the lineup long term.     • Recovering from minor setback
      Turner (hamstring) had a minor setback when he felt some leg soreness following a high-intensity workout May 25, MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Turner resumed workouts this past weekend, doing some light jogging and change-of-direction running in addition to fielding grounders and hitting in the cage. The Phillies haven't offered a timetable for when he will run the bases, and Turner will need to start up a running program in addition to taking part in sliding drills before he's cleared for a rehab assignment. Turner will travel with the Phillies for their series in London against the Mets later this week to continue workouts, but he won't be activated from the 10-day injured list.       Advice: Friedl provided all the Reds would need in the second inning when he bopped a two-out, three-run home run to give Cincinnati a 4-0 lead. It was the first home run of the season for Friedl, who is coming back from a second stint on the injured list and has played just 10 games this season.
