      Advice: Bednar took the mound with the Pirates ahead by two and yielded a homer to Nolan Gorman to kick off the ninth. While he retired Nolan Arenado and Brendan Donovan back-to-back, Bednar walked Jose Fermin and a catcher's interference put runners on first and second. However, Bednar avoided disaster, striking out Mike Siani to complete his 14th save. Although he owns a 5.40 ERA, Bednar ranks eighth in saves and owns a 30:7 K:BB across 28.1 innings.       David Bednar allowed one earned run while picking up the save in Tuesday’s win over the Cardinals.

      Advice: Bednar earned his 14th save on the season in this one, but it didn’t come easy. After giving up a leadoff homer to Nolan Gorman to kick off the ninth, Bednar would later walk José Fermin with two outs before a catcher’s interference put Iván Herrera on base. Bednar would strike out Michael Siani to end the game, but it was yet another rough outing for Bednar, who is sporting a 5.40 ERA on the year.       Estevez (1-3) got the win over the Astros on Sunday after pitching a scoreless ninth inning and striking out a batter in the process.

      Advice: Estevez was tasked with preserving a tie game, and did so without any trouble, sending the Astros hitters down in order on 12 pitches. He wound up as the winning pitcher after the Angels walked it off in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a two-run homer from Logan O'Hoppe. Estevez now has four consecutive scoreless appearances during which he's compiled three saves and a win. For the year, the 31-year-old has 10 saves to go with a 4.05 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB in 20 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:43 am
       
    • Fans nine in no-decision
      Ragans allowed a run on three hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out nine during the loss to Seattle.

      Advice: Ragans served up a leadoff home run to J.P. Crawford on just the fourth pitch of the game but was otherwise dominant despite not earning a win. After the homer, Ragans struck out seven of the next 10 batters he faced. It was his second straight quality start and fourth in his last five appearances. He forced a season-high 22 whiffs, including 11 with his changeup. Ragans lowered his ERA to 3.08 alongside a 98:25 K:BB through 79 innings.       Cole Ragans limited the Mariners to one run in six innings and struck out nine in a no-decision Sunday.

      Advice: The Ragans-George Kirby matchup met expectations, resulting in a 1-1 tie when Ragans departed. Ragans allowed one run or fewer for the eighth time in 14 starts this season. His two bad outings this year have been particularly bad, accounting for 14 of the 27 earned runs he’s allowed, but he’s been terrific overall and should have been than a 4-4 record to show for it.     • Carlos Estévez earns victory against Astros Sunday
      Carlos Estévez picked up his first victory of the season on Sunday, working a scoreless ninth inning in a tied game against the Astros.

      Advice: The 31-year-old hurler came on to work the top half of the ninth inning after the Angels had rallied to score two runs in the eighth to tie the game. Estevez retired the side in order — including a strikeout of Yainer Diaz — then became the beneficiary when the Angels walked it off in the home half of the inning.       Duran (1-2) picked up the win Sunday against Pittsburgh, striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning. He did not allow a baserunner.

      Advice: Duran was roughed up by Pittsburgh on Saturday, allowing three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. The hard-throwing right-hander was able to rebound Sunday, pitching a clean ninth frame to earn his first win. Duran has not received a save opportunity since June 2, but he is still the Twins' top closer, going a perfect 10-for-10 in save chances after missing the first month of the season with an oblique injury. He worked around a base hit, striking out two in a scoreless frame. The 29-year-old right-hander has been excellent after a slow start.
