The Pirates placed Bednar on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a strained left oblique, retroactive to Thursday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bednar reported feeling tightness in his side during his throwing session before Saturday's game and wasn't available to pitch in the game. His injury was initially believed to be relatively minor, so it's possible the 29-year-old reliever will be able to return after a minimum-length stay on the IL. Until then, Aroldis Chapman will likely see the majority of save opportunities, and Justin Bruihl will come up from Triple-A to replenish the Pirates' bullpen depth. • Pirates put closer David Bednar (oblique) on IL
Pirates placed RHP David Bednar on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 20, with a left oblique strain.

Advice: Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday during a local radio interview that he hopes the injury is minor. The 29-year-old stopper was unavailable during Saturday’s game against the Rays due to left side tightness and is going to get some extra time off to rest and recover. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days. It’ll presumably be Aroldis Chapman handling the closing duties for Pittsburgh during his absence. Rotoworld Today, 9:52 am

    • Not starting Sunday
Joe isn't in the Pirates' lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Joe will sit out a second consecutive game Sunday following an 0-for-13 stretch spanning his last four contests, prompting another start in right field for Edward Olivares. Rotowire.com Today, 9:00 am

    • Reinstated off IL, starting Sunday
The White Sox reinstated Jimenez (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Advice: Jimenez will serve as the designated hitter and bat third for Sunday's series finale against the Tigers. Jimenez strained his left hamstring while scoring from second base against the Blue Jays on May 21, prompting his placement on the injured list one day later. In his rehab assignment, he went 8-for-18 with one double, one home run and five RBI in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Jimenez is slashing .231/.288/.381 with five home runs and 12 RBI over 146 plate appearances this season, though the 27-year-old was in the midst of a five-game hitting streak prior to his injury. • White Sox activate Eloy Jiménez for Sunday return
White Sox activated OF Eloy Jiménez from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Jiménez returns to Chicago’s lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers following a nearly five-week absence recovering from a left hamstring strain. The oft-injured 27-year-old slugger has been snakebitten this physical ailments this season and has struggled to a pedestrian .668 OPS with five homers and three steals in 36 contests. • Launches seventh homer
D'Arnaud went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: While his playing time has been limited in June, d'Arnaud is starting to make the most of it. He has a homer in two of his last three games, giving him seven long balls on the year. The catcher is at a .242/.310/.464 slash line with 24 RBI, 21 runs scored, 13 doubles and no stolen bases over 171 plate appearances. While Sean Murphy has struggled at the plate this season, he's hitting .244 in June, which has been enough to keep d'Arnaud in the backup catcher role. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:59 pm
    • Travis d’Arnaud goes deep in loss to Yankees
Travis d’Arnaud clobbered a two-run homer on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Braves past the Yankees in New York.

Advice: The 35-year-old backstop tagged Marcus Stroman for a 355-foot (98.9 mph EV) two-run shot in the seventh inning that pulled the Braves to within four runs at 7-3. That would be as close as they would get. It was also d’Arnaud’s only hit in three at-bats on the evening. On the season, he’s now slashing .242/.310/.464 with seven long balls and 24 RBI, though his utility from a fantasy perspective has fallen by the wayside following the return of Sean Murphy at the end of May. • Pops homer in win
Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Ramirez put the Guardians ahead for good with a third-inning blast, which was his first extra-base hit since June 9. He's gone 8-for-33 (.242) over his last eight games, but he's made up for the quieter bat by adding four stolen bases in that span. Overall, the star third baseman has a .271/.330/.528 slash line with 19 homers, 67 RBI, 56 runs scored and 14 steals through 71 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:08 pm

    • David Bednar (side) was unavailable on Saturday
Pirates’ manager Derek Shelton told reporters after Saturday’s victory that David Bednar was unavailable due to tightness in his left side.

Advice: It was surprising to see Aroldis Chapman close out a one-run victory for the Pirates against the Rays instead of Bednar, and now we know why. Shelton noted that he doesn’t believe the injury is anything serious, but Bednar’s status should be monitored over the coming days. Those speculating on saves in daily leagues could try to catch lightning in a bottle with Chapman. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:27 pm
