    • Gunnar Henderson crushes 27th homer in loss to M’s
Gunnar Henderson went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer on Thursday in the Orioles’ loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Henderson was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle by the fifth inning of this one as he continues to build a credible American League MVP Award resume heading towards his first All-Star Game appearance in a few weeks. The 23-year-old emerging franchise cornerstone took Mariners starter Bryce Miller deep in the third inning for his 27th round-tripper of the season and finished with his ninth three-hit performance of the first half. He’s batting an absurd .344 (42-for-122) with nine homers and six steals over his last 30 games. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

    • Wyatt Langford puts on a show in losing effort
Wyatt Langford delivered an RBI single on Thursday in the Rangers’ loss to the Padres.

Advice: Langford made a pair of unbelievable highlight-reel worthy defensive plays and was responsible for plating the Rangers’ lone run of the contest with a run-scoring single off Padres starter Michael King in the sixth inning. The 22-year-old top prospect has been excellent over the last few weeks, batting .303 (33-for-109) with three homers and six steals over his last 30 games. He’s yet another textbook example of why fantasy managers should exercise patience with talented top prospects, even if they struggle initially upon reaching the majors. • Smacks 14th homer
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Reynolds took Andre Pallante deep on the first pitch of the fourth, providing the only run for the Pirates until the 10th inning. Reynolds has found his power stroke of late, with six of his 14 home runs this season coming over his last 18 games. He's carried a hot bat since the beginning of June, slashing .319/.372/.588 with seven homers and 18 RBI over his last 29 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 12:43 pm

    • Bryan Reynolds swats solo homer in extra-inning loss
Bryan Reynolds homered in an extra-inning loss to the Cardinals on Thursday.

Advice: Reynolds swatted a solo homer off Andre Pallante to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning. The outfielder has homered 14 times while driving in 48 runs thus far in 2023. It was the only hit of the game for Reynolds, but his .273/.338/.466 slash is solid, and he was much better than that in June with a .330/.388/.504 slash in that month. • Xander Bogaerts starts rehab assignent Thursday
Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A El Paso.

Advice: The veteran shortstop has been sidelined since May 20th with a fractured left shoulder. The team originally claimed his absence would be two months, which would be almost exactly after the All-Star break. Considering Bogaerts will need a few rehab appearances to get his timing back, the Padres could wait until after the break to call him up, but there’s a chance we’d see him at the end of next week if all goes well. The 31-year-old has not been great this season even when healthy, hitting .219/.265/.316 in 47 games with four home runs and four steals. It’s fair to wonder how often Bogaerts will run when he comes back since head-first slides into second base could risk aggravating the shoulder injury. Given his modest power output, if his stolen base totals take a meaningful hit, he would likely be a middle infield option for deeper leagues but not a starting shortstop in shallower formats. • Ruled out through All-Star break
Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Verlander (neck) will not return prior to the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Verlander has resumed playing catch and appears to be making some progress as he works his way back from neck soreness. However, it's been about three weeks since he's thrown off a mound, and he'll surely need at least one rehab start before returning. The 41-year-old should be back before the end of July if he can avoid setbacks. Rotowire.com Today, 9:17 am

    • Launches homer in loss
Paredes went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Royals.

Advice: Paredes took Michael Wacha deep in the opening frame for an early 1-0 lead. He and Amed Rosario were the only Rays to get on base multiple times in the game as Paredes drew multiple walks for the first time since May 17. He's now racked up five extra-base hits, reached base a total of eight times and driven in four runs over his last three games. Paredes is enjoying another productive campaign after breaking out last year, slashing .276/.365/.481 with 14 homers, 46 RBI, 33 runs and a 35:57 BB:K in 342 plate appearances in 2024. • Begins swinging bat
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Carter (back) flew to Arizona last week and has begun swinging a bat, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: This marks the first time Carter has swung a bat since landing on the injured list in early June. Bochy indicated the plan calls for Carter to face live pitching in the next few days. The injury was first described as lower-back tightness but was then reclassified as a stress reaction, which prompted the lengthy rehab. Rotowire.com Today, 5:17 am

    • Settles for no-decision Wednesday
Blanco allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Toronto on Wednesday.

Advice: Blanco fared fine after giving up six runs (three earned) in his previous outing, though fantasy managers in leagues that count quality starts will no doubt be disappointed that he was pulled one out shy. That hook may have also cost the right-hander a victory, as he had a one-run lead when he was relieved by Tayler Scott, who promptly gave up a single to allow the tying run to cross the plate. While Blanco has posted a modest 8.2 K/9 on the campaign, his overall numbers are strong -- he's recorded a 2.53 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 96 frames. Rotowire.com Today, 12:35 am
