    • Evan Carter (back) available off bench on Friday
Evan Carter (back) was held out of the Rangers’ starting lineup once again on Friday night, but will be available off the bench.

Advice: The 21-year-old outfielder has been sidelined since Saturday due to stiffness in his lower back. The good news is that he’s progressing and won’t require a trip to the injured list, and likely wouldn’t have been in the starting lineup anyways on Friday with left-hander Tyler Anderson taking the ball for the Angels. Expect Carter to return to the starting lineup at some point over the weekend. Rotoworld Today, 2:30 pm

    • Available off bench Friday
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Carter (back) is available off the bench for Friday's series opener against the Angels, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Carter hasn't played since May 10 against the Rockies due to lower-back inflammation. He received a cortisone shot Monday, and while he won't be starting Friday, he will be available out of the dugout if needed. Carter is slashing .216/.303/.416 with six doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI over 142 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:23 pm

    • Andy Pages not in Thursday’s lineup vs. Reds
Andy Pages is not in the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Reds.

Advice: Pages will get a night off to reset mentally after going 0-for-9 with six strikeouts over his last two games against the Giants. The 23-year-old rookie has gotten off to a nice start for the Dodgers through 26 games, but is starting to hit his first real rough patch. It’ll be interesting to see how he responds. • Day off Thursday
Pages isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Pages has struck out six times in his last nine at-bats, so the Dodgers will give him a chance to regroup Thursday. Teoscar Hernandez will shift to right field as a result, allowing Chris Taylor to pick up a start in left while batting seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:14 pm

    • Max Kepler goes hitless in Twins’ shutout loss
Max Kepler went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Thursday in the Twins’ shutout loss at the hands of the Yankees.

Advice: Kepler has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball of late, hitting .354 (17-for-48) with two homers and seven doubles in 14 games since the start of May, but wasn’t able to get anything going in this one. He wasn’t alone as Minnesota’s lineup wound up being limited to just three hits as Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt and reliever Victor González combined on a shutout. • Andy Pages takes golden sombrero in victory
Andy Pages went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts while the rest of the Dodgers were scoring 10 runs Tuesday against the Giants.

Advice: Jason Heyward has started a rehab assignment, so this is a really bad time for Pages to go cold. He seems like the more interesting of those two players at this point, but the Dodgers still might send him down if they think Heyward can make at least a modest contribution. • Max Kepler sitting against lefty on Tuesday
Max Kepler, Edouard Julien, Trevor Larnach and Alex Kirilloff are not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Yankees.

Advice: The quartet of left-handed batters will take a seat with tough lefty Carlos Rodón toeing the rubber for New York. Kepler has been outstanding of late since returning from the injured list, but figures to continue sitting against southpaws. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:43 pm

    • Could return Friday
Carter (back) received a cortisone injection and is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Guardians, but he could rejoin the lineup as soon as Friday versus the Angels, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning Newsreports.

Advice: The 21-year-old hasn't seen the field since Saturday and was diagnosed with lower-back inflammation after an MRI on Monday. He'll now be unavailable for at least a couple more days following the injection. Ezequiel Duran is receiving another start in left field Tuesday in Carter's stead. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:36 pm

    • Evan Carter (back) not in Tuesday’s lineup
Evan Carter (back) is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Guardians.

Advice: Carter is targeting a return to the Rangers’ lineup later this week after receiving a cortisone injection on Wednesday to address lower back inflammation. The 21-year-old outfielder appears likely to avoid the injured list, barring something unexpected, and should be ready to roll at some point in a couple days. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:42 pm
