      Lane Thomas smacked a two-run double, drew a pair of walks and scored a run on Wednesday as the Nationals fell to the Padres in San Diego.

      Advice: Thomas finally broke through and got the Nationals on the board with a two-run double off of Tom Cosgrove in the ninth inning. He scored later in the frame on a two-run double by Luis Garcia, but the five-run rally in the ninth still fell short. The 28-year-old outfielder was also cut down attempting to steal second base in the ballgame.       McNeil went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.

      Advice: It's the 32-year-old's first multi-hit performance since June 9, with McNeil batting a brutal .088 (3-for-34) in between. The career .291 hitter is slashing just .216/.281/.298 on the season, and his lengthy slump -- as well as a hot start to Jose Iglesias' Mets tenure -- has put McNeil's playing time in a bit of jeopardy.
