    • Racks up three hits from atop order
Ohtani went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk Monday in a 9-5 victory versus the Rockies.

Advice: With Mookie Betts (hand) set to miss several weeks, Ohtani could see most of his work out of the leadoff spot -- he's now slotted in there for both games that Betts has missed so far this season. Ohtani certainly possesses qualities of a leadoff man with a .314 average, .388 OBP and 16 thefts on the campaign, though his power far exceeds what is usually expected from a batter in that role. Ohtani could lose some RBI opportunities with Betts not hitting ahead of him for the foreseeable future, but the Japanese superstar is more than capable of knocking himself in and should continue to get opportunities to score with Will Smith and Freddie Freeman batting behind him. • Hurls quality start Monday
Garrett struck out six and allowed one run on five hits and no walks over six innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Monday.

Advice: Garrett served up a solo homer to Mike Siani in the fifth that turned out to be his only mistake in an otherwise stellar showing. The left-hander didn't issue a walk in his six innings of work, making it the fourth time in his seven starts this season that he didn't allow a free pass. The 26-year-old has been inconsistent this season, as he has allowed 22 runs in four of his starts but has given up just two runs in his other three appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:20 pm
    • Smacks 12th home run
De La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer in Monday's 7-6 loss versus the Cardinals.

Advice: The 27-year-old's only hit in this game was a big one as he tied the score at 4-4 with a three-run blast off JoJo Romero in the eighth. De La Cruz is already up to 12 homers in 2024 after he totaled 19 long balls in 153 games last year. The power production helps offset De La Cruz's underwhelming .242/.295/.416 slash line. • Braxton Garrett bounces back against Cardinals
Braxton Garrett yielded one run over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

Advice: Garrett recorded six strikeouts and held the Cardinals to just a fifth-inning solo homer by Michael Siani over six strong frames. It was a much-needed rebound effort for the 26-year-old lefty after being tagged for 11 runs (nine earned) over his previous two starts against the Mets and Rays, respectively. He’ll bring a lackluster 5.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 34/4 K/BB ratio across 37 innings (seven starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the Mariners. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:27 pm
    • LaMonte Wade (hamstring) doubtful for Thursday
LaMonte Wade Jr. probably isn’t going to be able to make it back into the Giants lineup for the Rickwood game in Alabama on Thursday.

Advice: Wade has been aiming to play in the contest, but his strained left hamstring isn’t quite ready yet. The Giants have been getting by with Wilmer Flores and Trenton Brooks at first base. Brooks will most likely be demoted once Wade is ready. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:32 pm

    • Might not need rehab assignment
Rodgers (hamstring) went through a full workout Monday at Coors Field and the Rockies are still deciding whether he needs a rehab assignment before being activated, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Advice: Rodgers resumed baseball activities a few days ago and it appears he's continued to progress without issue. He's eligible for activation from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, and while there's no indication he'll return on that date, it doesn't appear to have been ruled out. Adael Amador has been filling in for Rodgers at second base but is likely to be sent back to Double-A Hartford once Rodgers is ready. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:15 pm

    • Sitting out Monday
McMahon is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Dodgers.

Advice: The lefty-hitting McMahon is getting just his third day off of the season with a left-hander (James Paxton) on the mound for the Dodgers. Alan Trejo will step in at third base in place of McMahon, who has started to heat back up over the past week with seven hits -- including two home runs -- in his last 20 at-bats. • Moves into leadoff spot sans Betts
Ohtani will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Monday's game in Colorado.

Advice: In the Dodgers' first game without Mookie Betts (hand), Ohtani slides up one spot in the order and will be followed by Will Smith, who moves from cleanup to the two hole. Ohtani also hit leadoff once back on May 18 when Betts had a day off. It's the only two times this season that he hasn't hit second. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:15 pm

    • Michael Wacha will begin a rehab assignment
Royals RHP Michael Wacha (foot) will begin a rehab assignment on Monday in the Arizona Complex League.

Advice: Wacha was hit in the foot by a comebacker on May 31st and was placed on the IL with a fracture a couple of days later. He threw a three-inning simulated game last Thursday and reported no issues, so he’ll step up to a short rehab start and continue to work his way back from there. Provided his foot responds well to this start, he could quickly move through the rehab process. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:36 pm
