    Advice: Once again, the 25-year-old infielder’s stay at the big league level was short-lived this time around. Schmitt went just 3-for-22 (.136) with one RBI and a 5/0 K/BB ratio in his six games with the Giants this time around. He’ll continue to bide his time at Triple-A until he’s called upon once more.   • Austin Riley held out of lineup again on Friday
    Austin Riley (side) was held out of the Braves’ starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game on Friday night.

    Advice: It’s still encouraging that there has been no chatter about a possible trip to the injured list, which would seemingly mean that Riley is making progress and should return to the lineup any day now.     Justin Turner returned to the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Rays.

    Advice: After missing the previous three games due to illness, Turner will jump right back in as the Jays’ designated hitter and will bat cleanup against Tyler Alexander and the Rays on Friday evening.     Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains out of the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

    Advice: There had been an expectation that the 30-year-old second baseman would be ready to return on Friday night after three straight days off, but alas it was not to be. The Mariners are now saying that he may miss the entire series against the Orioles and could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. Stay tuned.   • Homer, three RBI in win
    Triolo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Cubs.

    Advice: Triolo opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run shot off Kyle Hendricks before driving in a third run with a base hit in the fourth. It's the first multi-hit game since May 3 for Triolo -- he'd gone just 2-for-30 in his prior 10 contests. The 26-year-old infielder is now slashing .201/.291/.257 with two homers, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and three steals through 41 games this season.     Jared Triolo delivered a two-run homer and an RBI single against the Cubs on Friday.

    Advice: Ke’Bryan Hayes’ back injury gave Triolo a reprieve when Nick Gonzales was called up, but Gonzales is performing well so far (.824 OPS) and Triolo will need more of this if he’s going to stick around after Hayes returns. Triolo entered the day having gone hitless in his last four games and having collected only three extra-base hits in 161 plate appearances on the season. He’s at .201/.291/.257 overall.     Advice: With Corey Julks joining the active roster on Friday, the White Sox needed to clear a spot for him and it looks like Shewmake was the odd-man out this time around.     Nationals optioned INF Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester.

    Advice: The 23-year-old became an unfortunate roster casualty on Friday with Joey Gallo (shoulder) returning from the injured list. In 122 plate appearances with the Nats, Lipscomb hit .252/.331/.290 with a homer, nine RBI, 10 stolen bases and a 20/11 K/BB ratio.     White Sox activated INF/OF Danny Mendick from the 10-day injured list.

    Advice: The versatile 30-year-old will rejoin the White Sox’ roster with Bryan Ramos (quad) heading to the injured list on Friday. In his limited action with the big league club this season, Mendick has hit .256/.293/.410 with one homer, three RBI and one stolen base in just 39 at-bats.
