    • Completes 15-pitch side session
Hendriks (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday consisting of about 15 fastballs, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Hendriks was back on the mound for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August and was upbeat following the workout. The veteran reliever believes he can make it back from the 60-day injured list by the end of August, but he's not far along enough in the rehab process yet for the Red Sox to put a definitive target date on his return. The Red Sox signed Hendriks to a two-year deal in February with the understanding that anything the right-hander gave the club in 2024 would be a bonus, so the team likely doesn't have any visions of the three-time All-Star supplanting Kenley Jansen as the team's closer when he eventually returns. • Needs another rehab start
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Wednesday that Clevinger (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.comreports.

Advice: The veteran right-hander threw 71 pitchers over 4.2 innings during his third rehab outing Sunday, and he'll continue building up his workload at Triple-A. Assuming that next outing goes well, Clevinger could step into Chicago's rotation during the first week of July. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Black was recalled from Sacramento ahead of Tuesday's contest, but he will now return to the minors without appearing in a game. The 24-year-old right-hander owns an 8.79 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 14.1 innings with the Giants this season but the lack of depth in San Francisco's rotation could allow him to return to the majors if needed for a spot start. Hayden Birdsong was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago

    • Poor control in loss
Gibson (5-3) allowed four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four over four innings to take the loss versus Atlanta in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Gibson made his first start since June 14 -- a stint on the bereavement list, a bout of back tightness and a rainout combined to keep him out of game action for 12 days. He wasn't sharp, throwing 50 of 87 pitches for strikes Wednesday, with the five walks being a season high. This was his first loss since April 13 and the first time he's given up more than three runs since May 17. Gibson has a 3.70 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 77:36 K:BB over 87.2 innings across 15 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

    • Designated for assignment
The Giants designated Burgos for assignment Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: In the span of just two days, Burgos has been selected from Triple-A, optioned back to the minors and now will lose his spot on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old lefty gave up a run during his only MLB appearance Monday but sports a 1.64 ERA in Triple-A, which could spark some interest from other organizations in need of bullpen help. Hayden Birdsong was selected from Sacramento in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Walks four in win
Lopez (6-2) allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings to earn the win in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.

Advice: By his lofty standards this season, this wasn't a great performance for Lopez, but it was still enough for his third straight win. He hadn't allowed a run over his last two starts, and he's walked multiple batters just twice in his last seven outings. The right-hander is now at a 1.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 81:27 K:BB through 79.1 innings over 14 starts in 2024. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Giants. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago

    • Jarred Kelenic goes 3-for-5, homers in Braves’ win
Jarred Kelenic went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and a steal in the Braves’ 6-2 victory over the Cardinals in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Advice: We’re still not all in on the Kelenaissance here, but the 24-year-old should continue to offer mixed-league value while leading off regularly for the Braves. The homer today was his eighth in his last 38 games (and eighth in 64 games for the year). Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

    • Reynaldo López holds Cardinals to two runs in win
Reynaldo López defeated the Cardinals by allowing two runs in five innings in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Advice: López certainly wasn’t at his sharpest today, but the Cardinals came away with just one run each time they loaded the bases against him. The Braves had bullpen help ready to go the latter time, when Brendon Donovan was up with two outs in the fifth. Donovan went on to hit a sharp liner, but it was right at Jarred Kelenic in center, keeping the Braves’ lead intact. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

    • Kyle Gibson walks five in loss to Braves
Kyle Gibson allowed four runs and walked five in four innings Wednesday in a loss to the Braves.

Advice: The control issues are rather unusual for Gibson — this is the first time in two years that he’s walked five in a game — and one wonders if they might have been related to the back issue that cost him his last start. He dropped to 5-3 with a 3.70 ERA. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago
