    • Start squandered by error, bullpen
Ashcraft didn't factor into the decision during Wednesday's 6-2 loss to San Diego, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Ashcraft's two unearned runs came in the fourth, when a two-out, two-RBI Jurickson Profar single plated Jackson Merrill -- who reached via error -- and Tyler Wade. Even with the mishap, Ashcraft left the game with the score knotted up at two, where it stood until Jake Cronenworth clubbed a grand slam in the seventh. Ashcraft has posted back-to-back quality starts and hasn't taken a loss since April 2. He'll look to extend that quality-start streak to six Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. • Orioles place Grayson Rodriguez on 15-day IL
Orioles placed RHP Grayson Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 30, with right shoulder inflammation.

Advice: The move comes just two days after Rodriguez’s last start where he allowed zero runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Yankees on Monday. The 24-year-old has posted a 3.71 ERA, 1.41 WHIP with a 37/12 K/BB ratio in his six starts this season. The positive for the Orioles is that the team was able to activate John Means and Kyle Bradish should be back in the rotation soon as well. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:44 am

    • Hits IL with shoulder inflammation
The Orioles placed Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: Rodriguez showed no signs of being hindered by an injury in his last start against the Yankees on Monday, striking out three over 5.2 scoreless innings. However, the right-hander's shoulder is evidently bothering him enough that he will miss a least the next two weeks of action. John Means (forearm) was activated from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move and will replace Rodriguez on the 26-man active roster and in the rotation. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:39 am

    • Falls to Baltimore
Cortes (1-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Orioles, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Three of Baltimore's four runs off Cortes came in the fourth inning, as the 29-year-old left-hander took a second straight loss. Cortes had gone seven innings in each of his previous two outings, allowing just three runs while striking out 13 in that span. His ERA now sits at 3.86 with a 1.10 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB across seven starts (42 innings). Cortes is currently scheduled to face the Tigers at home in his next start. • Nestor Cortes hit around in no decision
Nestor Cortes allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings in a loss to the Orioles on Tuesday.

Advice: It wasn’t a bad day overall for Cortes, who has a 20 percent whiff rate but just a 24 percent CSW. The Orioles weren’t fooled by much and had 11 hard-hit baseballs against Cortes on the night. The left-hander relies a lot on deception, so when hitters have their timing against him, it’s going to be hard for him to find success. He’s been good more often than not this season and will carry a 3.86 ERA into a start against the Tigers that he should be in all lineups for. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:19 pm

    • Shuts down Yanks for fourth win
Rodriguez (4-1) picked up the win Monday, allowing five hits and three walks over 5.2 scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory over the Yankees. He struck out three.

Advice: While the 24-year-old right-hander recorded his lowest strikeout total of the season so far, Rodriguez kept New York from pushing across a run despite having runners in scoring position in three of the six innings in which he worked. He tossed 54 of 101 pitches for strikes before exiting, coming up just short of his fourth quality start of the year, and he gave up two runs or fewer for the fifth time in six trips to the mound. Rodriguez will take a 3.71 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB through 34 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Cincinnati. • Grayson Rodriguez shuts out Yankees in win
Grayson Rodriguez went 5 2/3 innings and allowed five hits and no runs in a 1-0 victory against the Yankees.

Advice: After a putrid outing where he allowed seven earned runs, Rodriguez put together a scoreless performance and threw more than 100 pitches for the first time in a game this season. This was the 24-year-old’s third win of the season and brought his 4.45 ERA down to a cool 3.71 ERA. Rotoworld Monday, 6:07 pm

    • Little run support Sunday
Gilbert did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out nine in 6.1 innings.

Advice: Gilbert allowed an early solo home run to Christian Walker in the second. He was then able to keep the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard until Eugenio Suarez doubled home another run in the seventh to even things up at 2-2, ultimately knocking Gilbert from the game and spoiling his chance at a win. Still, it was another excellent outing from the 27-year-old. His nine strikeouts were a season-high and he's managed to go at least six innings and all but one start so far. Gilbert now owns a sparkling 2.03 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 44:9 K:BB in 40 innings and lines up to face the Astros on the road next weekend. Rotowire.com Monday, 2:43 am
