    • Wins despite command issues
Burnes (10-4) allowed a run on two hits and four walks over six innings Friday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rangers.

Advice: The lone blemish on Burnes' final line was a solo shot from Nathaniel Lowe in the second inning. It was the first time that Burnes issued more than three walks in a start; over his previous four outings, he walked just one batter. Burnes has gone 7-2 with an impressive 2.10 ERA over his last 12 outings. The veteran righty lowered his ERA to 2.38 with a 116:29 K:BB trough 124.2 frames. His next outing is currently expected to be in Miami. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago
    • Collects three RBI in win
Volpe went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Friday's 6-1 win versus Tampa Bay.

Advice: The New York shortstop cracked a bases-clearing double in the third inning to extend the Yankees' lead to 4-0. This performance marks Volpe's third three-RBI game of the season. Perhaps this game's success will spur the 23-year-old on to a better second half, as he entered the evening hitting a miserable .143 (12-for-84) with eight runs scored and five RBI over his previous 20 games. • Luis Arraez tacks on two more hits
Luis Arraez went 2-for-4 with a double on Friday against the Guardians.

Advice: The Padres were blanked in this one, but Arraez still got his. Always an excellent source of batting average, his double was just his second extra-base hit this month. He also hasn’t drawn a walk since June 29th. He will provide you with a great average and not much else. Rotoworld Today, 7:30 pm
    • Clayton Kershaw goes four innings in rehab start
Clayton Kershaw had mixed results in Friday’s minor league rehab start at Triple-A Oklahoma City, giving up three runs on six hits over his four innings of work.

Advice: The 36-year-old left-hander struck out two batters on the night and didn’t allow a base on balls. He gave up a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run double by Sam Huff, then served up a solo homer to Davis Wendzel in the fourth. Kershaw threw 67 pitches in the game (49 for strikes). Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts said earlier in the day that if things went well, Kershaw could rejoin the club’s rotation next week. We’ll see if that ends up being the case or not, though he’ll probably be limited to around 80 pitches his next time out — wherever it is. Rotoworld Today, 7:21 pm
    • Plays catch Friday
Betts (hand) played catch Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Betts previously had someone else catch the ball for him while he continued to keep his arm active, but Friday marked the first time he was able to catch balls himself using his fractured left hand. The Dodgers have yet to set a target return date for the 31-year-old, though there's still a chance he's able to rejoin the team in early August, at which point he may be used as a second baseman given Miguel Rojas' strong performance while filling in as Betts' replacement at shortstop. • Luis Arraez (thumb) returns to lineup on Friday
Luis Arraez (thumb) returned to the Padres’ starting lineup for their second half opener against the Guardians in Cleveland on Friday evening.

Advice: The sweet-swinging 27-year-old sat out Sunday’s first half finale and pulled himself out of the All-Star Game due to his jammed left thumb. It sounds like all is good now though, and he’s right back out there as the Padres’ designated hitter and leadoff hitter on Friday night against Tanner Bibee and the Guardians. • In lineup Friday
Arraez (thumb) will DH and bat leadoff for Friday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: Arraez has been nursing a jammed left thumb and opted to sit out the All-Star Game to let the injury heal. However, the issue won't require him to miss any time for the Padres, and he'll fill his regular leadoff spot during Friday's series opener against Cleveland. The 27-year-old is slashing .310/.342/.378 across 416 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:38 pm
    • Throwing bullpen Saturday
Schmidt (lat) is expected to throw around 20 pitches off a mound Saturday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Schmidt hasn't thrown off a mound since being placed on the injured list May 30, making Saturday's session a significant step in his recovery from a strained right lat. The 28-year-old will likely need to complete a few more bullpen sessions before being sent out on a rehab assignment. He seems to still be a few weeks away from activation, and with Gerrit Cole back, there may not be a spot in the Yankees' rotation available for Schmidt once he's healthy. • Clarke Schmidt to throw off a mound Saturday
Yankees RHP Clarke Schmidt will throw off a mound for the first time on Saturday.

Advice: Schmidt is set to throw about 20 pitches as he makes his way back from a lat strain. He’s still not close to returning to a major league mound, but Schmidt says he expects to be fully built up by the end of the season. He was 5-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 11 starts for New York this season.
