    • Santiago Espinal designated hitless in loss
Santiago Espinal went 0-for-4 as the Reds’ DH in the shutout loss to the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: We’re not saying it tops “for sale: baby shoes, never worn,” but “Santiago Espinal, designated hitter” is also an awfully sad story and is two entire words shorter. The Cincinnati lineup tonight was a product of the Reds keeping Jeimer Candelario and Jake Fraley in injury limbo for the third straight game; neither could even DH tonight, but the Reds still didn’t want to commit to IL stints. Espinal is currently batting .198/.246/.287 in... wait, that can’t be right... 187 plate appearances? Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

    • Struggles with command in loss
Hudson (2-11) took the loss Friday versus the White Sox, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Advice: The Colorado righty failed to find the strike zone as his five free passes matched a season worst previously reached April 13 and June 16. Hudson finishes off a poor June, during which he made five starts, going 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 13:14 K:BB across 24.1 innings. Things don't get much easier for him as he's currently scheduled to face the Brewers -- a team collectively sporting a 113 wRC+ against righties -- at home in his next outing. • Moves to 4-3
Pallante (4-3) allowed four hits and three walks over 5.1 shutout frames Friday, striking out five and earning a win over Cincinnati.

Advice: Pallante worked around a few jams to keep the Reds off the board. The Cardinals would go on to win 1-0, so his scoreless performance was much-needed. Since moving into the starting rotation, Pallante has produced a 3.86 ERA with a 25:13 K:BB in six starts. His season ERA dropped to 4.50 through 38 innings. Pallante's next start is currently lined up to be in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

    • Extends saves lead
Helsley struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Helsley had about as efficient of an outing as possible, needing only six pitches to close out the 1-0 game. It was his 29th save in 30 tries this season and he lowered his June ERA to 3.00 through 12 appearances. Helsley leads all of baseball in saves and no one else has more than 25. He dropped his season ERA to 2.68 alongside a 44:16 K:BB. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago

    • Handed loss Friday
Taillon (4-4) allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against Milwaukee.

Advice: Taillon worked through three shutout frames before coughing up a grand slam to Jackson Chourio in the fourth inning. Taillon is now 1-2 over his last four starts despite registering a 2.16 ERA during that stretch. He's given up three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 13 starts this season. Taillon owns a strong 3.03 ERA with a 58:17 K:BB through 74.1 frames this season. He's projected to face the Phillies at home next week. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

    • Salvador Perez goes 2-for-4, hits 13th home run
Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a walk Friday in the Royals’ 10-3 drubbing of the Guardians.

Advice: Perez has hit in five straight after struggling for the first three weeks of the month. He’s thus far posted OPSs of 1.013 in April, .815 in May and .613 in June. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

    • Alec Marsh strong for six against Guardians
Alec Marsh pitched six innings of one-run ball Friday in a victory over the Guardians.

Advice: Marsh came into the night with a 6.61 ERA in his previous six starts, so he needed this. Since it’s just the fifth time this year that he’s completed six innings, he has only four quality starts. Nevertheless, he’s 6-5 with a 4.19 ERA. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

    • Triston McKenzie pulled in third against Royals
Triston McKenzie gave up five runs in 2 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Royals.

Advice: McKenzie issued the first intentional walk of his career to Bobby Witt Jr. in the third, though it was one of those in which the pitcher got to a 3-0 count and then put him on. The Royals went on to score three times afterwards, though things were probably trending in that direction anyway. McKenzie’s velocity has climbed some since the start of the year, but his results have been dreadful lately; he’s pitched just 7 2/3 innings and given up 12 earned runs and 11 walks in his last three starts. • Kyle Isbel goes 2-for-4, homers against Guardians
Kyle Isbel went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk against the Guardians on Friday.

Advice: After a very quiet April and May, Isbel has stepped it up with a .308/.339/.558 line this month. He’s not doing much running (though he did try and fail on a steal attempt tonight), so there still isn’t currently much reason to consider him in mixed leagues, Rotoworld 39 minutes ago
