  • Secures win Tuesday
    Neris (2-0) worked around a hit and a walk to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the win Tuesday against the Padres.

    Advice: Neris pitched a clean top of the ninth inning, then scooped up a win when Michael Busch homered in bottom half of the frame to break a 2-2 tie. On a less positive note, the veteran allowed multiple baserunners for the second straight game, which would be a concerning trend if it continues. For now, Neris is locked in as Chicago's closer, having supplanted Adbert Alzolay earlier in the season. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago
     
  • Earns third win
    Holton (3-0) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win Tuesday against the Guardians. He allowed two hits and struck out three.

    Advice: Detroit starter Kenta Maeda struggled in this one, allowing seven runs across only two innings of work, which forced Holton into the game in the third. The lefty pitched much better, however, and he managed to snag his third win as the Tigers poured on the offense in the 11-7 victory. Holton has been mostly good this season outside of allowing five runs while retiring just one batter back on April 26. He'll continue to serve as a long-relief option out of Detroit's bullpen.   • Gets bailed out by offense
    Maeda allowed seven runs on five hits across only two innings of work but did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 11-7 win over the Guardians. He walked three and struck out one.

    Advice: Maeda wasn't very good in this one, but he escaped his second loss of the season thanks to a ton of run support. The veteran righty is now sitting with a subpar 6.75 ERA across his first seven starts with the Tigers, though he had only allowed one run over 11 innings in his previous two appearances coming into Tuesday, so there were some signs he was turning things around before this dud. Home runs have been a problem, as the 36-year-old has now allowed nine of them in 30.2 innings. Maeda will look to keep the ball in the park and post a better line in his next scheduled start, which is penciled in for Monday against the Marlins. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
     
  • Randy Vásquez strikes out six over 4 1/3 innings
    Randy Vásquez allowed one earned run over 4 1/3 innings while striking out six in the Padres’ loss to the Cubs.

    Advice: Vásquez’s lone blemish of the night came on a solo home run from Cody Bellinger. He would be pulled with one out in the fifth after allowing a single to Miguel Amaya, but managed to lower his ERA to 4.50 on the season and has allowed one earned run in two of his three starts on the year.   • Imanaga dazzles, strikes out 8 in win over Padres
    Shota Imanaga allowed two earned runs over seven innings while striking out eight in the Cubs’ 3-2 win over the Padres.

    Advice: Imanaga was stellar again on a night where the Cubs only provided him one run on offense. Unfortunately, a disastrous eighth inning, which he entered with 95 pitches alread on the ledger, quickly went awry for the lefty, who gave up a single a two-run homer to Jurickson Profar in the frame to get saddled with the loss. Outside of the disastrous eighth, Imanaga didn’t run into too much trouble in this one, stranding only one runner in scoring position while limiting the Padres to only singles through his first seven innings.   • Iglesias earns ninth save in win over Red Sox
    Rasiel Iglesias earned his ninth save of the season in Tuesday’s win over the Red Sox.

    Advice: Iglesias retired all three batters he faced to earn his ninth save of the season and help snap the Braves’ three-game skid. It was a much-needed win over a beatable team after the Braves dropped all three games on the road against the Dodgers, as Iglesias is now 9-for-11 in save opportunities on the season.   • Luis Gil handles Astros in win on Tuesday
    Luis Gil allowed one run on one hit in six innings in a win over the Astros.

    Advice: Gil was effectively wild on Tuesday, which is something we’ve come to expect from the 25-year-old. He walked four on the day and had just a 42 percent zone rate; however, he also had a 23 percent whiff rate and struck out five batters. Much of Gil’s success came on the changeup which had a 40 percent whiff rate, while his four-seam fastball was his most effective strike pitch. At some point, Gil is not going to be able to keep walking this tightrope, but he has a 2.92 ERA on the season and has two solid outings coming up against the Rays and White Sox.   • Kutter Crawford strikes out six in loss to Braves
    Kutter Crawford allowed two earned runs over six innings while striking out six in the Red Sox loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

    Advice: Crawford gave up a two-run bomb to Jarred Kelenic in the third inning and scattered four more hits across six frames. The righty lowered his ERA to 1.75 on the year, and has now struck out six or more batters in six of his eight starts on the year.   • Justin Verlander hit hard in loss to Yankees
    Justin Verlander allowed seven run on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday.

    Advice: Verlander also walked three, struck out just two, and gave up three home runs on the day. The 41-year-old simply didn’t have it on Tuesday, allowing a three-run homer to light-hitting Alex Verdugo in the first inning. He allowed a run in four of his five innings on the day and posted just an 11 percent whiff rate and 20 percent CSW. His ERA is now 4.43 on the season and he has 16 strikeouts and 10 walks in 22 1/3 innings on the season.
