    • Collects fourth win
Jackson (4-1) walked one over 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Thursday. He did not record a strikeout.

Advice: Hayden Birdsong went 4.2 innings in his debut and left with the game tied at 3-3. Jackson got the Giants out of the top of the fifth inning there, and Luis Matos put them ahead for a good with a solo shot in their half of the frame. Jackson had allowed five runs over 1.1 innings prior to Wednesday, and he's given up multiple runs three times in 10 appearances in June. Overall, he's struggled to a 6.12 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 20:14 K:BB through 25 innings while adding two holds and three blown saves in a low-leverage role this year. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago
    • Hits IL with strained forearm
The Cubs placed Assad on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right forearm extensor strain, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: It's not clear how long Assad's forearm has been bothering him, but he's stumbled in June with a 5.49 ERA after entering the month with a 2.27 mark. Assad had been slated to get a start this weekend in Milwaukee, but the Cubs will need to find a substitute to fill in for that outing and at least one additional start next week, as well. • Moved to 60-day IL
The Cubs transferred Almonte (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Almonte suffered a setback in his recovery from a right shoulder strain this past week. He remains without an updated return timeline, but his move to the 60-day IL suggests the 30-year-old righty isn't expected back relatively soon. The Cubs signed Vinny Nittoli to an MLB deal Thursday to fill the open spot on the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

    • Red Sox send reliever Campbell back to minors
Red Sox optioned RHP Isaiah Campbell to Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Campbell was just promoted on Monday after posting a 2.19 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 18/3 K/BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings at Triple-A. However, he was lit up for three runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning in his only appearance this week. He’ll try to figure things out at Triple-A; although, that hasn’t helped so far this season. LHP Bailey Horn is allegedly being called up to take his place. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago
    • Getting spot start Thursday
Kuhl will start Thursday's game against Atlanta at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Advice: Kuhl had started in 11 of his 13 appearances at Triple-A Charlotte prior to being called up June 14, but his first three outings with the big club have come out of the bullpen. However, Kuhl covered 4.1 innings and 99 pitches in long relief while mopping up in Sunday's 11-2 loss to the Tigers, so even though he'll be pitching on three days' rest, he should be able to provide the White Sox with a decent amount of length in a starting role. Unless he impresses against Atlanta to earn himself a longer stay in the rotation, Kuhl will likely be moved back to the bullpen or sent to the minors after Thursday's start. • Twins option Ronny Henriquez to minors
Twins optioned Ronny Henriquez to Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: Henriquez was called up on Tuesday to take Chris Paddack’s spot on the roster and will now head back down with David Festa being called up. The right-hander has thrown three scoreless innings for the Twins so far this season and will likely be back up again later this season. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
    • Imaging comes out clean
Darvish had imaging on his right elbow that came out clean, though he'll likely get additional imaging "for peace of mind," Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Darvish has recovered from a groin injury and was originally expected to come off the injured list to start Tuesday, but that plan was scrapped when he developed inflammation in his right elbow. Initial indications suggested that the issue is minor, and the clean imaging seems to support that, though San Diego will likely be cautious with the veteran hurler's return. It's not yet clear when Darvish will return to action or if he'll need to make any rehab starts given the extension of his absence. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Making progress in throwing program
Blackburn (foot) threw a bullpen session Tuesday at Angel Stadium and is set to complete another one Saturday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander has been making steady progress over the last week-plus, as he's already thrown two bullpen sessions and seemingly come away from that activity without setbacks. If Saturday's session also goes off without a hitch, Blackburn could progress to facing hitters as the next step in his recovery. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
    • Testing open market
Andrews elected free agency Wednesday in lieu of accepting an outright assignment.

Advice: Last week, the Yankees moved Andrews off their 40-man roster for the second time this season. Andrews accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre upon clearing waivers back in April, but he won't do the same this time around and will instead look to join an organization that can present him with a clearer path to the big leagues. The lefty reliever made 20 appearances this season at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 5.84 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 28:22 K:BB in 24.2 innings. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago
