    • Captures Home Run Derby crown
Hernandez defeated the Royals' Bobby Witt, 14-13, in the final round of the 2024 Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field on Monday.

Advice: The 31-year-old became the first Dodgers player to win the Home Run Derby in the event's 38-year history and took home a $1 million prize. A first-time participant in the Home Run Derby, Hernandez secured the final spot in the semifinals after his opening-round total of 19 home runs trailed the Phillies' Alec Bohm (21), the Guardians' Jose Ramirez (21) and Witt (20). Hernandez then survived a swing-off with Bohm after the two tied with 14 home runs in the semifinals before he narrowly edged out Witt in the finals. Hernandez is slated to start for the National League in center field in Tuesday's All-Star Game and will bat eighth. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:48 am
    • Teoscar Hernández wins Home Run Derby
Teoscar Hernández won the Home Run Derby on Monday, beating Bobby Witt Jr. 14-13 in the finals.

Advice: Witt came up just a few feet short on his final swing of going to a swing off. MLB’s new format tonight helped prevent any standout performances by adding a clock and a pitch limit, and Alec Bohm’s 21-homer showing as the very first batter in the first round actually ended up as the biggest number of the night. Still, it made for a close competition, and everything was very much in doubt until the very end. Hernández barely survived the semis after Bohm faltered on his final few swings and then edged Witt in the shorter final round. Rotoworld Monday, 7:55 pm
    • Knocks homer in loss
Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Perez heads into the All-Star break 11-for-31 (.355) with three homers and eight RBI during his active eight-game hitting streak. The catcher is up to 17 homers on the year, giving him a good chance of surpassing the 23 he hit in each of the last two campaigns. He's added 62 RBI, 38 runs scored, 16 doubles and a .282/.343/.477 slash line over 94 contests. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:18 pm
    • Notches third steal
Mountcastle went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Mountcastle's steal was his third of the year, putting him one shy of matching his career high. The first baseman's speed isn't notable, but he's been steady at the plate, going 10-for-40 (.250) over 10 contests in July. Overall, he's slashing .271/.311.,447 with 12 home runs, 43 RBI, 44 runs scored, 22 doubles and a triple through 88 games this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:00 pm
    • Carries Texas to win
Smith went 2-for-4 with two two-run home runs during Sunday's 4-2 win over the Astros.

Advice: As a team, the Rangers logged only three hits Sunday. Two of those came off Smith's bat, and each wound up in the stands for the 26-year-old's first career multi-homer game. During his last 11 games, Smith is batting 13-for-40 (.325) with three homers, seven runs scored, eight RBI and a stolen base. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:21 pm

    • Struggles with command
Lodolo yielded two runs on three hits and four walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out four during the loss to Miami.

Advice: Lodolo kept the Marlins off the board through four innings before Jonah Bride knocked a two-run single in the fifth. Lodolo has failed to complete five frames in three straight outings since his win in Pittsburgh on June 18. During that three-start span, he's produced a lackluster 11:9 K:BB over 13 innings. Lodolo finishes his first half with a strong 3.33 ERA and 81:24 K:BB through 78.1 frames. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:02 pm

    • Salvador Perez goes 2-for-4, hits 17th homer
Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 and hit his 17th homer against the Red Sox on Sunday.

Advice: Perez slumped in June, but he’s bounced back nicely of late and will enter the All-Star break with an eight-game hitting streak. The homer today was his third during the streak and sixth in his last 18 games. Rotoworld Sunday, 3:54 pm
    • Josh Smith carries Rangers with two home runs
Josh Smith went 2-for-4 with two two-run homers in a 4-2 win over the Astros.

Advice: Smith was the Rangers’ offense in this one. His first inning home run produced their only runs, only hard-hit ball, and one of just two hits in total off Astros’ starter Ronel Blanco. Then his eighth inning long ball gave Texas their only insurance. Smith has been one of the surprise performers of the first half with 10 homers, five stolen bases, and an .861 OPS. • Lodolo struggles with command against Miami
Nick Lodolo allowed two runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings while walking four in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: Lodolo got ahead of hitters often, starting 15 of the 19 batters he faced with a first-pitch strike; however, he struggled to put people away. He did strike out four on the day, but he also had just a 49 percent zone rate overall and had a hard time locating anything other than his fastball. He’ll carry a 3.33 ERA into a start against the Nationals on Sunday after the All-Star break. If he can recapture his command, he should have a solid second half of the season.
