    • X-rays come back clean
X-rays came back negative on Moreno's thumb following Friday's game against the Phillies, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Advice: Moreno hurt his thumb on a slide early in Friday's contest but remained in the game long enough to tally his third homer of the season. He was ultimately pulled in the sixth inning. Manager Torey Lovullo noted after the contest that Moreno is likely to avoid the injured list but would have to see how he is feeling Saturday before any final determination is made. • Earns third straight win
Montgomery (6-4) earned the win against the Phillies on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings.

Advice: Montgomery tossed two scoreless innings before surrendering a two-run home run to Trea Turner in the third. He responded with three straight scoreless innings and left the game with a 4-2 lead after throwing 83 pitches. Montgomery earned his third consecutive win while registering his first quality start in June, as he has not reached 90 pitches in an outing since May 19. On the season, Montgomery owns a 5.71 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB over 63 innings and tentatively lines up to face the Twins next week. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago
    • Diamondbacks hopeful Gurriel (elbow) will avoid IL
Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo said after Friday’s game that he’s hopeful Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (elbow) will be able to avoid the injured list.

Advice: Lovullo noted that the 30-year-old outfielder was sore after the game on Friday but that he did not require any imaging — at least at this time. He’ll be re-evaluated on Saturday, but it sounds like he was fortunate to have avoided any type of serious injury here. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago
    • Fans seven in win
Carrasco (3-6) allowed a run on four hits over six innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Carrasco kept Toronto off the board until he coughed up a solo homer to Vladimir Guerrero in the fourth inning. Carrasco entered Friday's game in a rough stretch, going 0-4 with a 5.96 ERA over his previous five starts since his last win May 5. The veteran righty lowered his season ERA to 5.40 with a 51:21 K:BB after punching out a season-high seven batters Friday. With Gavin Williams (elbow) expected to return soon, Carrasco's role moving forward is unclear. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

    • X-Rays return negative for Gabriel Moreno (thumb)
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters after Friday’s game that X-rays came back negative for any structural damage on the injured thumb of catcher Gabriel Moreno.

Advice: Lovullo is hopeful that Moreno will be able to avoid a stint on the injured list but noted that he’ll have to wait and see how he’s feeling on Saturday morning to make a full determination. In the meantime, expect Tucker Barnhart to draw a start behind the plate on Saturday. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

    • Allows three homers in loss
Walker (3-3) took the loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over four innings.

Advice: Walker allowed four runs on three home runs, including back-to-back homers by Gabriel Moreno and Joc Pederson in the third inning. Walker generated only four swings on 77 pitches, including just one whiff with his splitter. Walker has failed to record a win or quality start since May 11 and currently owns a 5.60 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 43:21 K:BB over 53 innings. He tentatively lines up to face the Tigers next week. • Chris Sale stifles Yankees, earns win
Chris Sale struck out eight Yankees and allowed just one run across five innings in an 8-1 win on Friday. He walked three while the Yankees had just one hit.

Advice: Sale was on one in this start. Aaron Judge and Juan Soto were a combined 0-for-4 with four punch outs against the gangly left-hander and just two Yankees reached second base. More notable, Sale’s velocity was up nearly two ticks across the board. His fastball topped out at 98.4 MPH, the fastest he’s thrown a pitch in more than 13 months. Healthy, dominant, fiery, Sale looks like his old self and a bona fide Cy Young candidate so far this season. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

    • Was available Friday
Manager Aaron Boone said Torres (groin) was available Friday against Atlanta, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Despite being available, Torres never entered the game, leaving his status for Saturday's contest ambiguous. Jahmai Jones or Oswaldo Cabrera would likely enter the lineup if Torres is forced to miss a second consecutive game. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Earns ninth save
Sewald earned a save against the Phillies on Friday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Advice: Tasked with preserving a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning, Sewald needed just 11 pitches to secure his ninth save of the year. Sewald has not allowed a run since his first outing of the season May 7 and is a perfect 9-for-9 in save chances. He now owns a sparkling 0.66 ERA, 0.51 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings in 2024.
