    • Rays waiting on Josh Lowe (side) IL decision
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports the Rays will wait until Friday before making a decision whether Josh Lowe (side) will require a trip to the injured list.

Advice: Topkin added that an injured list stint seems likely, but Tampa Bay wants to wait and see how he feels on Friday before making a final decision. Rays manager Kevin Cash delivered an ominous “not ideal” statement to reporters following Lowe’s early exit from Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox due to right side tightness. The 26-year-old five-category impact fantasy contributor dealt with a similar issue back in spring training and underwent an MRI on Thursday to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status at some point prior to Friday’s series opener against the Royals. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:15 pm

    • TJ Friedl hopes to take batting practice soon
According to The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith, TJ Friedl (broken thumb) “continues to progress” and hopes to take “batting practice soon.”

Advice: TJ Friedl is back to hitting off flips as he works back from a broken thumb. Once he is able to take batting practice, his next step will likely be live at-bats and a rehab assignment. It’s possible that he could be back around mid-June but it will depend on how his thumb feels while taking live swings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:15 am

    • Hitting flipped pitches
Friedl (thumb) has progressed to hitting flipped balls in the batting cage and hopes to be cleared to take batting practice soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl is making a rapid recovery from a fractured left thumb, an injury he suffered just 11 days ago. If the outfielder is able to take batting practice soon, a brief rehab assignment should follow shortly after. He would appear on track for an early June return from the 10-day injured list. • Headed for MRI
Lowe will undergo an MRI on his right side Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Manager Kevin Cash labeled Lowe's injury as a "right side strain," though the exact nature of the outfielder's issue will become known once his MRI results come back. Lowe landed on the injured list during spring training due to a right oblique strain and missed the first month-plus of the regular season, and it's possible he could require another stint on the IL due to his latest flareup. • Josh Lowe (side) heading for MRI on Thursday
Rays’ manager Kevin Cash told reporters after Wednesday’s game that Josh Lowe will undergo an MRI exam on his injured side on Thursday.

Advice: Cash also termed the injury “not ideal” saying that it’s being called a right side strain for the time being. We’ll know more on Thursday regarding how long Lowe may be sidelined for, but it sounds like a return trip to the injured list is going to be in order. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:42 pm

    • Exits with side tightness
Lowe was removed from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox due to right side tightness, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: The Rays are officially marking Lowe as day-to-day, so the team doesn't seem too concerned with his injury. Tampa Bay doesn't play Thursday, which will give the 26-year-old an extra day to rest before potentially returning Friday without missing any games. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:52 pm

    • Josh Lowe leaves game with right side tightness
Josh Lowe was pulled from Wednesday’s contest against the Red Sox in the second inning due to tightness in his right side.

Advice: Remember, Lowe just returned from the injured list in the first week of May after missing significant time with an oblique injury. For now, the Rays are calling him day-to-day, though injuries to the side can be tricky. A lot will probably depend on how he’s feeling on Thursday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:44 pm

    • Josh Lowe leaves game due to possible injury
Josh Lowe was removed from Wednesday night’s battle against the Red Sox in the second inning due to an apparent injury.

Advice: No word yet on exactly what happened here, but the dynamic 26-year-old outfielder was pinch-hit for by Jonny DeLuca in the second inning. The Rays should provide an update on Lowe’s status shortly. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:27 pm

    • Records 15th steal
Acuna went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Cubs.

Advice: The steal was Acuna's first since May 4, an unusually long drought without a theft for the speedy outfielder. He was caught on his only attempt over 12 games between steals. Acuna has struggled to get into a rhythm at the plate this season, slashing .247/.355/.351 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 36 runs scored and 15 steals over 203 plate appearances. Some regression from last year's 41-homer, 73-steal campaign was to be expected in 2024, but Acuna's career-low .706 OPS so far has been a brutal overcorrection. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 8:50 pm
