    • Nails down ninth save
Bednar picked up the save against the Cubs on Thursday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

Advice: Bednar entered the game to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side and secure his ninth save of the season. The right-handed reliever has converted each of his last eight save attempts and carries a 2.57 ERA in May to go along with a 6:2 K:BB. Bednar has also recorded at least one strikeout in three straight appearances and in six of seven appearances overall this month. Rotowire.com Today, 3:48 am
    • Bednar with another clean inning for save
David Bednar picked up the save against the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Bednar’s ninth of the season. He pitched a clean ninth inning and recorded a strikeout to preserve a one-run lead. After a shaky start to the season, Bednar now has back-to-back clean innings in save opportunities. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:20 pm
    • Blanks Nats for fourth win
Crochet (4-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over the Nationals, giving up three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Advice: The left-hander wasn't exactly efficient, tossing only 56 of 89 pitches for strikes, but Crochet lasted long enough to qualify for the win. After a rough stretch in April, the 24-year-old has allowed only three runs over his last three starts (1.59 ERA) with a stellar 24:1 K:BB in 17 innings. Crochet will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Toronto. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:03 pm

    • Garrett Crochet keeps rolling in win over Nats
Garrett Crochet recorded six strikeouts over five shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Nationals.

Advice: Crochet turned in his fourth consecutive strong performance during Wednesday’s afternoon matinee at Guaranteed Rate Field, limiting Washington’s lineup to just three hits and three walks over five shutout frames. The 24-year-old southpaw’s average fastball velocity remained in the mid-to-upper 90’s as he generated 11 swinging strikes and finished with a pedestrian 27 percent CSW. He wasn’t completely dominant in this one, but it was another encouraging outing after a couple rough starts at the tail-end of April. How he holds up with a traditional starter’s workload will be the central question as the season progresses, but obviously there’s a lot to like about his performance so far. He’ll bring a solid 4.18 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 70/12 K/BB ratio across 51 1/3 innings (10 starts) into a road matchup on Tuesday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:40 pm

    • Converts 10th save
McArthur allowed a run on two hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 1.1 innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Advice: McArthur gave up a solo home run to Mitch Haniger in the ninth inning, but he was able to avoid any further damage. The right-hander has surrendered seven runs (six earned) over his last five appearances, and he's been tagged for four homers in that span. He's managed to convert saves in each of his last two outings despite the long balls. McArthur is 10-for-13 in save chances this year while adding a 4.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB through 19.2 innings. He does not appear to be in danger of losing the closer job yet, but it is concerning to see him give up so much hard contact. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:56 pm

    • James McArthur records save against Mariners
James McArthur gave up one run while getting the final four outs for a save Tuesday against the Mariners.

Advice: Mitch Haniger homered off him in the ninth, but the Royals had a three-run lead at the time. It’s the 10th save for McArthur, who has a 4.58 ERA on the season. He’s given up four homers in 19 2/3 innings. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:25 pm

    • Beginning mound work Wednesday
Phillips (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Phillips has been on the injured list with a strained right hamstring since May 5, and he resumed playing catch Friday. He will presumably throw multiple bullpen sessions before progressing to facing live hitters, though he shouldn't take long to build back up as a reliever. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 5:23 pm

    • Evan Phillips to throw bullpen session Wednesday
Evan Phillips (hamstring) is slated to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: It’s the first time throwing off a mound for Phillips since hitting the injured list back in early May with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. The hope is that the 29-year-old elite stopper won’t need a rehab assignment before returning to Los Angeles’ bullpen. Rotoworld Tuesday, 5:08 pm

    • Bednar tosses scoreless ninth for save
David Bednar picked up the save in the Pirates’ win over the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: The Pirates were up 7-2 before a Jake Bauers grand slam in the eighth inning made it a one-run game. Bednar turned in a clean ninth inning for his eighth save of the season. He lowered his ERA to 8.44 on the season. Considering how Bednar has pitched this year and the Brewers storming back in this game, it was a clutch save. Rotoworld Monday, 8:19 pm
