    • Absent from lineup
Buxton is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Buxton started each of the previous four contests but will begin Thursday's festivities on the bench. The Twins are going with Austin Martin in center field in the rubber match of the series. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago

    • Notches 23rd save
Finnegan earned a save against the Mets on Wednesday with a perfect inning of work.

Advice: Finnegan protected a two-run, ninth-inning lead by retiring the side in order on 11 pitches. The right-hander has converted 10 of his past 11 save chances and has allowed just four runs over 17.1 innings during that span. Finnegan has been one of MLB's best closers this season, ranking third in the league with 23 saves while posting a 1.98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB over 36.1 frames. • Kyle Finnegan shuts down Mets for save
Kyle Finnegan worked a clean ninth inning on Wednesday to earn the save against the Mets.

Advice: Finnegan earned his 23rd save of the season, third most in the league, on Wednesday night. He looked sharp as he worked his third consecutive game and dropped his ERA down to 1.98. He’s been one of the most reliable closers in baseball so far this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:35 pm

    • Receiving breather
Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Bailey will get the day off Wednesday after catching four straight games. Curt Casali will fill in behind the dish and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:41 pm
    • Jordan Romano (elbow) has arthroscopic surgery
The Blue Jays announced Wednesday that Jordan Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair an impingement in his right elbow.

Advice: Jays’ manager John Schnieder told reporters that he’ll be shut down completely for the next six weeks before he’s able to resume throwing. That means there’s no certainty that he’ll be able to return before the end of the 2024 season. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues without IL spots can safely cut bait on the 31-year-old closer. Expect Chad Green to continue holding down the fort in the ninth inning for the time being. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:16 pm

    • Undergoes elbow surgery
Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Tuesday to repair an impingement and will be shut down from throwing for at least six weeks, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 31-year-old has been unavailable due to elbow issues since late May, and it's now unclear whether he'll be able to pitch again this year. Romano missed the first couple weeks of the season with elbow problems and never looked himself in the six weeks he was available with a 6.59 ERA in 15 appearances. Chad Green has stepped up as Toronto's closer with Yimi Garcia (elbow) also on the injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:15 pm

    • Could take next recovery step soon
Ruiz (wrist), who has resumed swinging a bat, could begin running the bases at some point next week, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The speedy outfielder continues to make incremental progress in his recovery from a left wrist strain, and baserunning would appear to be one of the final precursors to a rehab assignment. Given Ruiz also is still likely to engage in some live batting practice before heading to the minors for a few games, he's unlikely to be ready for activation until after the All-Star break. • Blanks Friars for fifth win
Eovaldi (5-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-0 victory over the Padres, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

Advice: Bryce Johnson's third-inning single spoiled any shot Eovaldi might have had at making history, but the right-hander still put together a dominant performance before leaving the mound after 92 pitches (61 strikes). The quality start was his sixth of the year, and Eovaldi will take a 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 80:26 K:BB through 80 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Rays. • Secures 13th save
Duran struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 13th save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Tigers.

Advice: After missing the first month of the season with an oblique strain, Duran has had a little trouble finding his usual form, but he may be coming around. The right-hander has been scored upon only once in his last 11 appearances, posting a 1.64 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB through 11 innings over that stretch while collecting three wins, three saves and a hold.
