    • Carlos Estévez gets save against Dodgers
      Carlos Estévez struck out two while picking up a save in a scoreless inning of work against the Dodgers on Friday.

      Advice: Estévez has been one of the few bright spots for the Angels this year, and now has 14 saves on the season and a 3.38 ERA. With Los Angeles nowhere near contention for a postseason spot, it would seem likely that the 31-year-old is pitching for a new team before August.       Sewald earned a save against the Phillies on Friday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

      Advice: Tasked with preserving a 5-4 lead, Sewald needed just 11 pitches to secure his ninth save of the year. The right-hander has not allowed a run since his first outing of the season May 7 and is a perfect 9-for-9 in converting save chances.     • Paul Sewald shuts down Phillies for ninth save
      Paul Sewald pitched a clean ninth inning on Friday to earn the save.

      Advice: There must be something about the city of Philadelphia or Citizens Bank itself that just calms Sewald because he did on Friday what he did four times in the last NLCS: shut the Phillies down. David Dahl did put a ball to the warning track, but it was to no avail. Sewald has not allowed a run in 14 straight appearances this season. Rotoworld Friday, 7:20 pm
       
    • Blows save, earns win
      Fairbanks (2-3) blew a save but earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

      Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base created a save situation. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged Fairbanks for a game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed in to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win Thursday.       Sewald allowed one hit and struck out one during a scoreless ninth to collect the save Thursday against the Nationals.

      Advice: Sewald collected his first save in two weeks, having tossed just 1.1 innings over two appearances during that span prior to Thursday. Despite the inactivity, Sewald needed only eight pitches, tossing six for strikes to thwart the Nationals. Sewald did surrender just his fourth hit allowed over 12.2 innings this season and still has not allowed a run since his initial appearance of the campaign. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:15 pm
       
    • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
      Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

      Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win.       Paul Sewald allowed a hit and picked up a strikeout in a scoreless inning to get a save against the Nationals on Thursday.

      Advice: Sewald has been sensational since returning from the injured list, and the scoreless inning lowers his ERA to a miniscule 0.71. The right-hander also has collected eight saves and will continue to operate as the Diamondbacks closer throughout 2024. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:31 pm

      Fairbanks said his bruised right thumb "felt within the realm of good" after playing catch Wednesday, and he expects to be available for Thursday's series finale in Minnesota, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

      Advice: The right-hander departed Tuesday's contest after being struck in the thumb by a comebacker, but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. Jason Adam, Garrett Cleavinger and Colin Poche will likely all be in the mix if a save opportunity arises Wednesday, but Fairbanks should be back on the mound for the Rays within the next couple days.
