    • Ends power drought
Arenado went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Reds.

Advice: Arenado went 11 games without a homer prior to Tuesday. In that span, he hit a paltry .222 (10-for-45). The third baseman took Andrew Abbott deep in the fourth inning to give the Cardinals all the offense they needed in the win. Arenado is still having a rough year overall with four homers, 25 RBI, 21 runs scored, 10 doubles and a .257/.311/.366 slash line over 52 contests. While the Cardinals' offense has struggled at times, Arenado has not been able to lead by example as much as he has in previous years. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:05 pm
    • Decent in no-decision
Cortes allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Tuesday.

Advice: Cortes allowed multiple runs for the first time in three starts, but it was still a passable outing for the southpaw. He allowed a total of nine runs (eight earned) over 29 innings across five starts in May while adding a 30:8 K:BB in that span. Cortes is at a 3.30 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 67:15 K:BB through 71 innings over 12 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in San Francisco. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:55 pm
    • Nestor Cortes holds Angels to two runs over 5 1/3
Nestor Cortes was uninvolved in the decision Tuesday after allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Angels.

Advice: The key for Cortes this season is simply to allow zero earned runs. He’s 3-0 when that happens and 0-4 the rest of the time. It’s something he’ll just have to work on prior to his start against the Giants on Sunday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:28 pm
    • Jesús Luzardo takes loss following quality start
Jesús Luzardo lost Tuesday after allowing three runs in six innings against the Padres.

Advice: Even a third straight scoreless outing wouldn’t have gotten Luzardo a win tonight, as the Marlins were shut out by the Padres. At this point, Luzardo is just playing out the string until an inevitable midseason trade. He’ll take a 2-4 record and a 4.18 ERA into his next start versus the Rays. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:13 pm
    • Gerrit Cole (elbow) to face hitters again Thursday
Gerrit Cole (elbow) will face hitters again on Thursday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: It’ll be the third time that Cole faces hitters as he continues ramping up his progression towards a potential June return to New York’s starting rotation. He’s presumably getting close to a minor league rehab start at some point in the near future, but the Yankees are clearly not rushing him back. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:12 pm

    • Tuesday's start rained out
Jones and the Pirates will not play the Tigers on Tuesday due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Tuesday's contest will be made up during a doubleheader Wednesday, and Jones will presumably pitch one of the two games. The 22-year-old right-hander owns a 3.05 ERA and 0.97 WHIP on the year, though he's allowed three earned runs in six innings during both of his last two outings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:10 pm

    • Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) might return next week
Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) has progressed to on-field running.

Advice: Hoskins is making steady progress from a right hamstring strain and could be ready to return to Milwaukee’s lineup next Monday when they open up a series against the Phillies. The 31-year-old was expected to miss 2-4 weeks after landing on the shelf back in mid-May. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:43 pm

    • Could return next week
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Hoskins (hamstring) ran on the field and is progressing in his running program, and it's possible the first baseman returns from the injured list early next week in Philadelphia, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The 31-year-old landed on the shelf May 14 with a strained right hamstring, and he's now ramping up his rehab work after a brief shutdown period. A return for the Phillies series is likely an enticing target for Hoskins, considering he'd spent his entire MLB career in Philadelphia before signing with the Brewers in January. • Throwing off mound
Scherzer (back/arm) will throw a "full" bullpen session Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Scherzer will throw off a mound for the first time since being shut down in early May, an encouraging sign for the 38-year-old, who's rehabbing a nerve problem in his throwing arm and an offseason back surgery. Prior to the setback, Scherzer threw 52 pitches April 25 in a rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:57 pm
