    Cristian Javier (neck) made his first minor league rehab start at Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday, giving up three runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings of work.

    Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander walked a pair while striking out three batters in the contest. He threw 68 pitches in the game, 39 of those for strikes. There had been speculation that he would require just one rehab start before returning to the Astros’ rotation next week, we’ll see if that holds after how Saturday’s outing went.   • Lance McCullers (elbow) begins mound work Saturday
    Lance McCullers Jr. (elbow) threw off of a mound for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his right forearm and also remove a bone spur in his elbow.

    Advice: The Astros are going to continue to take every precaution as they’re ramping him up, but the fact that he’s back on the bump is obviously an encouraging sign for the 30-year-old right-hander. Expect that he’ll repeat the process many times before he’s cleared to start facing live hitters. There’s still no clear timetable for a potential return to the big league rotation.   • George Kirby undergoes precautionary MRI on knee
    Mariners’ manager Scott Servais told reporters on Saturday that right-hander George Kirby underwent a precautionary MRI on his right knee.

    Advice: Servais didn’t relay any results from that exam yet, but did note that he’s optimistic Kirby will be able to make his next start against the Twins on Wednesday in Minnesota. While it doesn’t sound like anything serious, the mere fact that he required an MRI has to be at least somewhat worrisome for fantasy managers.     Héctor Neris allowed one run in the ninth inning, holding on for the save against the Brewers on Saturday.

    Advice: It hasn’t come easy for Neris, but he just keeps getting by in the ninth inning. He was summoned with a two-run lead against the Brewers and gave up a run on two hits and a walk before closing it out for his sixth save. Mark Letter Jr. tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts before handing it over to Neris. He’ll be someone to watch if Neris struggles to convert saves going forward.   • Jameson Taillon tosses six shutout for third win
    Jameson Taillon tossed six shutout innings with seven strikeouts in a win over the Brewers on Saturday.

    Advice: Taillon continued his excellent start to the season on Saturday, shutting down the Brewers over six innings. He scattered two hits and two walks, striking out a season-high seven batters. The 32-year-old right-hander has now allowed just three runs over 24 innings for a 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and a 16/5 K/BB ratio. He’ll take on the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Friday.   • Tobias Myers struggles in loss to Cubs
    Tobias Myers allowed four runs across three innings in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.

    Advice: Myers third start of the season was his shortest as he struggled to find the zone. Nico Hoerner led off the first inning with a solo homer off Myers, then three walks and a groundout brought a second run in before he was able to get out of the inning. Myers tossed a clean second frame, then gave up a two-run homer to Christopher Morel in the third. With DL Hall and Wade Miley still on the injured list, 25-year-old right-hander could get another start in the rotation, possibly Thursday against the Cardinals. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago
     
  • Cole Sands picks up save against Red Sox Saturday
    Cole Sands picked up his second save of the season on Saturday, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a two-run lead against the Red Sox.

    Advice: Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli turned to his closer, Jhoan Duran, to face the heart of the Red Sox’ lineup in the eighth inning, leaving Sands to clean it up in the ninth. He did his job admirably, getting Garrett Cooper on a ground ball to second base, David Hamilton on a swinging third strike and Reese McGuire on a line drive to first base to end it. The 26-year-old hurler shouldn’t get many save chances with Duran and Griffin Jax in the Twins’ bullpen, but he’ll get the occasional opportunity based on matchups. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago

    Pablo López delivered a dominant performance in Saturday afternoon’s victory over the Red Sox, piling up eight strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball.

    Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander scattered just five hits and one walk on the afternoon. The lone tally against him came as Tyler O’Neill smacked a two-out double in the opening inning and Wilyer Abreu followed with a run-scoring single. Aside from that, he was in complete control. López got 19 swings and misses on 99 pitches on the afternoon — 11 of those on his fastball — while posting a strong CSW of 31 percent.   • Making rehab start Sunday
    Marsh (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.

    Advice: Manager Matt Quatraro hinted Friday toward sending Marsh out on a rehab assignment, and the 25-year-old righty will now officially build back up with Omaha. Starting Sunday would put Marsh in line to return to Kansas City's rotation Friday against the Angels, though it's unclear if the Royals will want to keep him in the minors for multiple starts.
