    • Sent to Triple-A
The Royals optioned Nola to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Advice: The 34-year-old was called up by Kansas City last weekend but will lose his place on the 26-man roster as Hunter Renfroe (toe) returns from the injured list. Nola didn't see game action while up with the Royals. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
    • Returns from injured list
The Royals reinstated Renfroe (toe) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Advice: The 32-year-old resumed taking swings over the weekend and is back on the active roster after spending the 10-day minimum on the shelf with a bruised toe. Renfroe had a hot start to June prior to the injury as he went 7-for-18 with two doubles, two homers and six RBI in six games. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago
    • Out against left-hander
Busch is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Mets.

Advice: The Mets are sending southpaw Jose Quintana to the bump, which means Busch will begin this one on the bench. Patrick Wisdom is getting the start at first base. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

    • Headed back to majors
The Astros will recall Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land prior to Friday's game against the Orioles, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not yet clear what the corresponding roster move will be. Loperfido has slashed .272/.365/.568 with 13 home runs and nine stolen bases this season with Sugar Land and has hit .333/.381/.436 with one homer and one steal in 15 games with the Astros. Contact has been an issue at both spots, as he had a 28 percent strikeout rate at Sugar Land and a 39.5 percent strikeout rate in Houston. The power and speed potential is real, however. Loperfido played only center field during his most recent stint in the minors, so while he does have some experience at first base, the Astros seem to still be viewing him mostly as an option in the outfield. • Goes on paternity leave
The Mets placed Torrens on the paternity leave list Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Torrens will likely miss the full weekend series in Chicago versus the Cubs while he welcomes a new baby to the family. Joe Hudson will absorb his roster spot. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago

    • Sitting again versus lefty
McNeil is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: McNeil has now been out of the lineup for two straight games and seven times over the last eight occasions that the Mets have faced a left-hander, as he's pretty clearly now in a platoon at second base with Jose Iglesias. Iglesias and his teammates will try to solve southpaw Shota Imanaga on Friday. Rotowire.com 52 minutes ago

    • Planning to play next season
McCutchen indicated earlier this week that he plans to continue his playing career after this season, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: "In my mind, this isn't my last year," McCutchen said. McCutchen will turn 38 in October and is basically a full-time designated hitter at this point. He's been productive this season, however, particularly since being moved into the Pirates' leadoff spot, where he's slashed .273/.359/.459 with nine homers in 195 plate appearances. Mackey writes that he was told by owner Bob Nutting last season that McCutchen "will remain a Pirate for as long as he wants," so it would seem the team would be amendable to a new deal after this season. • Reinstated to start Friday
The Blue Jays reinstated Rodriguez (back) from the 15-day injured list to start Friday against the Guardians.

Advice: The right-hander has been on the shelf since late April due to thoracic spine inflammation, but he'll re-enter Toronto's rotation for Friday's series opener in Cleveland. Rodriguez built up to 79 pitches in his final rehab outing and should be able to handle a full starting workload. However, the Blue Jays were handling the 27-year-old's workload carefully prior to the injury, so it's possible Rodriguez is utilized in conjunction with Bowden Francis, who has been handling a bulk-relief role. • Optioned to Triple-A
The Blue Jays optioned Burr to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Yariel Rodriguez, who is coming off the injured list and expected to start Friday's game in Cleveland. Burr has permitted three runs (two earned) over 3.2 frames out of the Toronto bullpen this season. Rotowire.com Today, 7:57 am
