    Sanchez came away with a no-decision in Friday's 8-2 win over the Rangers, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk over four-plus innings. He didn't strike out a batter.

    Advice: After throwing at least 76 pitches in each of his three prior starts, Sanchez saw his workload ratcheted back in this one as he tossed only 53 pitches (29 strikes), getting the hook after allowing back-to-back hits to lead off the fifth inning. The right-hander is still looking for his first win of the season -- and first since Sept. 13, 2020. He has completed five innings only once since getting a chance to start, but he figures to continue plugging a hole in the Marlins' rotation until Edward Cabrera (shoulder) gets healthy or the team decides to bring Max Meyer back up. Sanchez will carry a 6.06 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 17:14 K:BB through 35.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Guardians.     Urena (1-5) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over 2.1 innings as the Rangers fell 8-2 to the Marlins. He struck out one.

    Advice: An error by Marcus Semien in the third inning did Urena no favors, but the right-hander also wasn't fooling anyone, managing only five swinging strikes among his 65 pitches before getting the hook. Urena is on his fifth team in four seasons since leaving Miami after the 2020 campaign, and while he sports a solid 3.74 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 45.2 innings for Texas this year, his 5.61 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over the prior three seasons suggest regression is coming.   • Struggles with control, takes loss
    Smyly (2-3) allowed two runs on a hit and three walks across 1.1 innings of relief Friday against the Reds. He struck out three.

    Advice: While Smyly was effective at missing bats, he was equally ineffective finding the plate. The three walks are a new season high and his BB/9 for the year is now up to 5.1, which would be a new career worst.     Houck (5-5) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over seven innings in a 7-3 victory over the Tigers. He struck out six.

    Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 95 pitches as he delivered his third straight quality start and 10th in 12 trips to the mound this season. Houck is having a breakout campaign, and he'll take a 1.85 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 75:15 K:BB through 78 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week against the White Sox.     Advice: Myers entered this start on a hot streak, firing a 1.93 ERA and 12:4 K:BB over 9.1 innings in his last three outings, but struggled against a weak White Sox lineup. He allowed just one homer -- a 417-foot solo shot to Paul DeJong -- but failed to reach multiple strikeouts in a start for the first time this season. The Brewers' rotation plans are murky, currently as DL Hall (knee) has been making rehab starts and could return soon.     Advice: Myers gave up three runs in the third, and another two came across and were charged to him two frames later. The 25-year-old allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out four in a well below-average start against one of the worst teams in baseball.     Sixto Sánchez yielded two runs in four-plus innings Friday in a no-decision against the Rangers.

    Advice: Sánchez, who went without a strikeout tonight, was pulled with a 4-1 lead after giving up a double and a single to start the fifth. Declan Cronin took over then and did a nice job in allowing only one of the runners to score.     José Ureña lasted just 2 1/3 innings and gave up four runs — two earned — in Friday’s loss to the Marlins.

    Advice: Ureña’s original organization treated him badly tonight, with Nick Gordon hitting a two-run homer off him. Ureña has been decent in his rotation stint for the Rangers, but it’d certainly be best if the team was able to stick him into a middle-relief role in the not-too-distant future.     Tanner Houck delivered a dominant performance in Friday night’s victory over the Tigers, allowing just one run on three hits over seven stellar innings.

    Advice: The 27-year-old hurler racked up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single by Gio Urshela in the opening inning. After that, the Tigers never really threatened against him. Houck got 10 swings and misses on 95 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 32 percent.
