    • Mason Miller locks down five-out save vs. Mariners
Mason Miller allowed a run over 1 2/3 innings while striking out one to earn the save against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Miller was asked to preserve the A’s two-run lead in the eighth inning with two runners on and one out. He induced a fly out and a groundout to keep the Mariners scoreless. Miller returned for the ninth and surrendered a solo homer to Julio Rodríguez before locking down his 12th save of the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:02 pm

    • Staying in bullpen
Manager Rob Thomson said Tuesday that Turnbull will stay in the bullpen while the Phillies remain committed to Taijuan Walker as their No. 5 starter, Dan Gelston of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: While Walker began the season on the injured list, Turnbull secured a spot in the Opening Day rotation and dazzled over his six starts, going 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB in 32.1 innings. Shortly after Walker returned from the IL in late April, the Phillies opted to move Turnbull to the bullpen rather than expanding the rotation to six men. Though his performance has taken a step back upon his move to the bullpen, Turnbull is coming off an impressive showing against the Cardinals on Saturday, when he struck out six over three scoreless frames. Walker, meanwhile, hasn't pitched into the seventh inning of his last five turns through the rotation and is sitting on a 5.73 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 37.2 innings overall through seven starts on the season. At this point, Walker's exorbitant four-year, $72 million contract may be the main reason he's still in the rotation, but his leash has undoubtedly gotten shorter. Walker will start Sunday's game against the Mets in London, but another poor showing could prompt Thomson to change his tune and give Turnbull another look in the rotation. • Braxton Garrett pummeled in loss to Rays
Braxton Garrett was pummeled in Wednesday’s loss to the Rays, giving up five runs on six hits across his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 26-year-old southpaw punched out three batters on the night while issuing one free pass. The Rays jumped on him for three runs in the opening inning on RBI doubles by Isaac Paredes and Josh Lowe. They then pushed across another pair while chasing Garrett in the third inning. He got nine swings and misses on just 53 pitches in the ballgame — five on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll attempt to improve upon his uninspiring 5.81 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 24/4 K/BB ratio (26 1/3 innings) when he takes on the Mets in New York on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:03 pm
    • Jordan Hicks lasts just 3 2/3 frames vs. D-backs
Jordan Hicks gave up two runs over 3 2/3 inefficient frames on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Hicks was all over the place in this one as he authored one of the more bizarre pitching lines of the season to date with seven strikeouts and four walks, while needing a staggering 92 pitches (51 strikes) to work into the fourth inning. The 27-year-old righty has exceeded expectations in his transition back to a traditional starting role, despite not working too deep into contests so far, posting a stellar 2.82 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 59/23 K/BB ratio across 67 innings (13 starts). He’ll square off against the Astros on Tuesday in his next outing. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:12 pm

    • Nick Castellanos homers, Phillies sweep Brewers
Nick Castellanos swatted a two-run homer on Wednesday, lifting the Phillies to a 2-0 victory over the Brewers.

Advice: Castellanos connected for a 402-foot blast off Brewers southpaw Aaron Ashby in the fifth inning for his eighth big fly of the season. It wound up being the lone tally for either side in a rare low-scoring showdown at Citizens Bank Park and was more than enough run support for Aaron Nola and the Phillies’ bullpen in this one. The 32-year-old corner outfielder has homered twice in this last seven contests since May 29. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:53 pm
    • Inefficient in no-decision
Hicks came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks, giving up two runs on six hits and four walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: The right-hander did rack up some Ks, but Hicks needed 92 pitches (51 strikes) to record just 11 outs and got the hook before he could quality for a win. He's failed to complete six innings in seven straight trips to the mound, posting a 4.09 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 32:13 K:BB over 33 innings during that stretch. Hicks will look for a more efficient performance in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Astros. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:41 pm

    • Provides only offense in win
Castellanos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Brewers.

Advice: The veteran outfielder provided the game's only offense by taking Aaron Ashby deep in the fifth inning. Castellanos is beginning to climb out of his early season hole, batting .270 (17-for-63) over his last 16 games with four of his eight homers on the season, along with 11 runs and 11 RBI. • Falls to St. Louis
Blanco (5-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Blanco held St. Louis to one run through his first four frames before surrendering three runs between the fifth and sixth innings. After starting the year 5-0, Blanco's now dropped back-to-back starts while allowing eight runs across 9.1 innings in that span. The 30-year-old right-hander still sports a solid 2.78 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP and 59:27 K:BB across 11 starts (64.2 innings) this year. Blanco will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in San Francisco. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:58 pm

    • Royals-Guardians postponed
Singer and the Royals won't play the Guardians on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland.

Advice: The Royals and Guardians will make up the postponed game as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 26 After missing his previous turn through the rotation last Thursday due to an illness, Singer was cleared to start Wednesday, but he looks like he'll have to wait until Thursday's series finale with the Guardians to make his return to the rotation.
