    • A’s asking price ‘steep’ in Mason Miller talks
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Athletics’s asking price for flame-throwing closer Mason Miller is steep.

Advice: Rosenthal adds that a team source indicates no team has come close to meeting Oakland’s astronomical asking price. The 25-year-old starter-turned-closer has been phenomenal this season, with a microscopic 1.10 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 33/4 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (13 appearances). It’s entirely possible that no team will come close to coughing up enough prospect capital to make a deal happen, but Miller figures to be at the epicenter of rumors leading up to the trade deadline later this summer. • Able to throw
Pepiot (leg) was able to play catch Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Pepiot was placed on the injured list the same day, so he'll be out until at least May 21. However, he has stated that he plans to return after a minimum stint sidelined, and his ability to continue to throw suggests he'll be back quickly. Rotowire.com Today, 8:59 am

    • Three hits in Wednesday's win
Guerrero went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Wednesday's win over the Phillies.

Advice: All three hits were singles, but two of them had exit velocities over 113 mph. Guerrero appears to be heating up, batting .350 (14-for-40) over the last 10 games with three doubles and a homer, but his .246/.344/.373 slash line on the season remains disappointing, Rotowire.com Today, 8:07 am
    • Stellar in non-save scenario
Miller fired two perfect innings during which he recorded four strikeouts in the first game of a doubleheader against the Rangers on Wednesday.

Advice: Miller had last taken the hill May 1, so manager Mark Kotsay opted to give his closer some much-needed work with the Athletics up by five runs. The extended layoff didn't seem to faze Miller in the least, as he located 24 of 32 pitches for strikes in a relatively efficient showing. The hard-throwing right-hander lowered his ERA and WHIP to 1.10 and 0.67, respectively, in the process, and with the Athletics much more competitive than expected thus far, Miller's prospects for save opportunities over the long term are brighter than when the season began, despite the recent stretch of inactivity. • Allows three runs in win
Hicks (3-1) earned the win over the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over five frames.

Advice: Hicks pitched well for most of the contest and allowed just one run up until the fifth inning. However, that's where the right-hander would run into trouble after allowing four consecutive batters to reach with one out, ultimately leading to two more runs coming across for Colorado. The seven hits and three runs allowed both marked season highs for Hicks, who has now failed to go beyond five innings in back-to-back starts. He now holds a 5.00 ERA over two May starts to go along with an 8:6 K:BB. Rotowire.com Today, 6:56 am

    • Jordan Hicks strikes out five in win vs. Rockies
Jordan Hicks allowed three runs with five strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Rockies on Wednesday.

Advice: After a clean first inning, a triple and a wild pitch brought the first run in to score for the Rockies in the second. Hicks ran into more trouble in the fifth, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. His day was done after five frames on 92 pitches. He struck out five. The 27-year-old right-hander has enjoyed an early breakout as a starter, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 35/16 K/BB ratio across 43 innings. Hicks will take on the Dodgers in San Francisco on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:30 pm

    • Productive in doubleheader
Semien went a combined 6-for-10 with a solo home run and three additional runs scored in Wednesday's doubleheader split with Oakland.

Advice: Semien, who had identical 3-for-5 lines in each end of the doubleheader, homered for a second straight game in the matinee. It's been a productive two days for Semien, who had four hits and a homer Tuesday; the second baseman raised his average 38 points after going 10-for-15 over the last three games. The surge has lifted his slash line to .286/.333/.476 with seven homers, 28 RBI and 31 runs through 39 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:00 pm
    • Scores thrice
Witt went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored during Wednesday's 6-4 win over Milwaukee.

Advice: Witt collected his fifth long ball of the campaign Wednesday, tagging Joel Payamps for a long ball to lead off the eighth inning. Witt also notched a double in the first inning and was brought in on a Michael Massey sacrifice fly. Witt has logged multiple hits in five of his last eight games with 12 runs scored and a .423 batting average during that stretch. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:35 pm
    • Gets back in win column
Singer (3-1) earned the win Wednesday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Singer tallied his first win in five starts, yielding one run for a third consecutive outing. He settled in nicely after allowing doubles to the first two batters he faced, keeping the Brewers off the scoreboard following the first frame. Singer has allowed more than two runs in just one start this season and owns a 2.36 ERA with 46 strikeouts across 45.2 innings. He's lined up for a start in Seattle on Monday.
