Luis Robert went 2-for-3 with a homer in a victory over Atlanta on Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Advice: Robert’s homer was not only the only run Chris Sale allowed and not only the only run for the White Sox, it was the only run scored by either team Thursday. The 26-year-old has homered eight times in his 103 at-bats while driving in 12 runs. Robert Jr. has enormous fantasy potential, but it sure would be nice to see him playing for a team that had a semblance of competence. RotoworldToday, 4:55 pm
Advice: So much for sticking around as emergency organizational depth. Bethancourt went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week by the Marlins. The 32-year-old veteran backstop batted just .159/.198/.268 with two homers in 88 plate appearances over 38 games this season before being cut loose. RotoworldToday, 4:55 pm
Tyler Stephenson was scratched from the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Cardinals.
Advice: Stephenson left the club on Thursday evening to be with his pregnant wife, according to a team statement. There’s a strong possibility he’s away from the team for the next couple days. It’ll be Luke Maile handling the catching duties in his absence. Austin Wynns would most likely come back up from Triple-A Louisville, if he’s gone more than a day or two. RotoworldToday, 4:52 pm
Seiya Suzuki doubled and tripled in an extra-inning victory Thursday over the Giants.
Advice: Suzuki drove in a run with his triple in the third to give Chicago a 3-0 cushion. He’s now tripled twice in 2024, while the double was his 11th of the campaign. Suzuki has three extra-base hits over the last two games to help improve his slash to .266/.337/.459. RotoworldToday, 4:51 pm
Nico Hoerner went 3-for-5 with a homer and a stolen base for the Cubs in an extra-inning win over the Giants on Thursday.
Advice: Hoerner swatted a two-run blast off Jordan Hicks in the third inning to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead. That’s only the third homer of the season for the 27-year-old, but the steal was already the 14th of the year. Hoerner missed time with a hairline fracture in his hand, and he’s a good bet to see a much higher average than the .246 mark he’s put up thus far in the second half. RotoworldToday, 4:51 pm
Ian Happ hit a go-ahead homer in the 10th to help give the Cubs a 5-3 win over the Giants on Thursday.
Advice: Happ gave the Cubs a 5-3 lead with a two-run shot off Luke Jackson to give Chicago the 5-3 lead and ultimately the victory. The 29-year-old had been scuffling as of late with just two hits in his last 21 at-bats coming into the contest, but he was able to procure his 10th homer and 41st and 42nd RBI in this one. Happ’s consistency is basically nonexistent, but he’s capable of going on streaks. Perhaps this is the start of a good one. RotoworldToday, 4:51 pm
Marlins outright Christian Bethancourt to Triple-A
Marlins sent C Christian Bethancourt outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Advice: Bethancourt went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week by the Marlins. The 32-year-old veteran backstop will most likely wind up electing free agency, but there’s a chance he decides to stick around as extra organizational depth. RotoworldToday, 3:08 pm
The Marlins outrighted Bethancourt to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.
Advice: Bethancourt cleared waivers after exiting the Marlins' 40-man roster a week ago. The catcher can elect free agency if he wants, and it's not yet clear whether he'll take that option or accept the outright assignment. Rotowire.comToday, 6:30 am
India went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to Pittsburgh.
Advice: No one in baseball is hotter than India, who leads MLB with a .571 average and is second in OPS (1.654) over the last seven days. He's hit safely in eight straight contests, going 15-for-29 with four walks, two steals, seven doubles, one home run, three RBI and eight additional runs scored. Rotowire.comToday, 6:08 am
